Selling parts and lack of manners.

When selling you have to have deadlines. I still have a part here, boxed up, ready to go waiting on payment FROM 2007! That's to remind me how to do deals/sell parts. Even if the buyer doesn't have paypal to pay right now, the MO people get a couple days to finish up. If it's not in hand by x date, sorry, moving on.

I prefer to take request as they arrive, first in gets first shot. Some just sell to who they want without regard to who messaged or pm'd first. It's like a swap meet, but it's not. I know that some people don't want others to know what they are buying, so the pm sent thing in the thread may not work well. Personally, I hate the direction the ad section has taken. No transparency.

If someone tells me that you have to check with someone else to see if it's OK and I have another buyer that wants an invoice/paypal address to pay, you're not likely to get the chance, even if you are first in line. I've told others that I have a first in line getting back and they are next up. Next up gets notified and doesn't want it because they had to wait 24-48 hours. Like everywhere, some get more latitude than others when it comes to buying. There are couple here that I'll hold parts for without time limits, they are VERY few. Others that I've held items for that didn't pay, they don't get a second bite at the apple.

Last night I was going to buy a motor and hoist. I told the guy I was heading up (about a 30 min drive) and leaving in about 10 min. I go to the bank, put gas in the truck, shove some Wendys down my throat and he text me are you on your way? I said yes, about 30 min. Then I text back closer to 45 min, I got held up, as Im driving up the freeway. He writes back "sorry, I already have someone else on their way" Seriously dude? That's how business is done these days?

I had that happen, pre cell phone days, only I was at the guys house after driving 2 hours when he let me know that someone else was coming and had first shot. I had tried to get up to the guys house for 2 days, but work, his schedule and weather were not being kind so Saturday it was. Guy that showed up was a long time family friend and customer of mine. He looked at the parts and bought them even after knowing the situation. I suggested he think about what he was going to do. My grandfather was pissed. Needless to say, I cut him off from product for 3-4 weeks and then increased the price of the component we supplied for his item by 300%. I made tons more off the pricing than I would have off the parts he snaked. Karma has a strange way of making things right sometimes.
