Hello, I recently acquired a 4 barrel Holley. I want to rebuild it before I install it on the rebuilt 318. The number on the air horn is List- 8007. I think this is the smaller of the four barrel Holleys. Anyway, how do you know what kit to buy? There are renew kits, rebuild kits, trick kits, and super kits. I have seen all these on Ebay. I tried looking at the parts stores online, but they require a specific vehicle. And the guys here at my local parts stores don't really have a clue. Can someone get me started in the right direction? Thanks.

IMHO. you are better off with a under size carb than an over size carb. unless you are racing.

There is actually a formula for figuring out how much Cubic Feet Per Minute (CFM) of fuel your engine will possibly need. It's half of your maximum desired RPM (for street vehicles we always said 5000 RPM, so half would be 2500) x your cubic inches of displacement (so 318 ) divided by 12 cubed. 2500 X 318 = 795,000 divided by 12^3 = 460.07 CFM. That equation is for naturally aspirated engines. That equation is also assuming 100% volumetric efficiency, which doesn't happen. Just a useless equation I learned back in my racing days. 390 CFM should do just fine on a naturally aspirated 318. At 85% Volumetric efficiency, you would need 391.059 CFM

I stand corrected sounds like a good match I am enjoying the 390 cfm primaries :glasses7: not the secondaries on my /6 :coffee2:

As I said in my PM, I like the Quick Fuel basic kit. It's cheap, complete and good quality.
