Comes down,to two. I like Grand Prix(1966),over Le Mans(1971). The camera work, insane on both. Real racing, not computer garbage. Share yours.....

Nice to see you, Revhendo. Any post from you,is appreciated.....Eric Bana, freakin rocks. Hope he pieces back together... A new to see.

Oh well originally you said racing "movie" so that lead me to believe Hollywood drama. Too many parameters.

I was too lacking ,in the original post. My fault. I like the camera work, and the lack of speech for a reason. Geez ....

Redline 7000 had some decent racing scenes in it, in between all the girl chasing BS that takes up a big chunk of the movie.

do documentaries count? I think Dust to Glory was great. Here is a link to watch the trailer, you see some race footage about a minute in

Grand Prix was great - acting and camera work both. Big name stars and several actual F1 World Champions did cameos: Phil Hill, Graham Hill, Juan Manuel Fangio, Jim Clark, Jochen Rindt and Jack Brabham. Dan Gurney, Richie Ginther, Jo Bonnier and Bruce McLaren also appeared in the movie.
According to Wikipedia, the camera car was a Ford GT40 driven by Phil Hill.
Funny thing was that only one of main actors, James Garner, could actually drive. The Wikipedia article states, "The actual level of driving ability of the actors varied wildly – Brian Bedford couldn't drive at all and was only ever in the car for close-up shots. Antonio Sabàto was very slow and nervous, Yves Montand himself scared very easily early in filming and was often towed rather than driving the car, but Garner was very competent and even took up racing and entering cars as a direct result of his involvement in the film. So impressive were Garner's driving skills that some of the real Formula One drivers, including Graham Hill and Jack Brabham, reportedly told Garner that he could have been a successful Grand Prix driver if he had not gone into acting."

I originally saw it at the Cinerama Dome theatre in Hollywood. It was my first year of college and my girlfriend and I and three other couples went to see it. It was hilarious after the movie as almost the entire audience, including those who arrived in VW bugs, were doing (or trying to do) burnouts out of the theatre parking lot.
Check out Grand Prix on DVD or Blu-ray if you've never seen it. I don't think you'll be disappointed - just remember the movie was made in 1966.
revolve around the women who try to live with or love the racers with dangerous lifestyles. The married Sarti begins an affair with a magazine writer, Louise Frederickson (played by Saint), while Aron has a brief romance with Stoddard's unhappy wife Pat (played by Walter).

I know that this is an old thread already. - But I thought I'd revive it now that the Snake and Mongoose film has finally been released on video.

I agree with Abodybomber for my top choice. I saw Grand Prix (at the theater) years ago and fell in love with that movie. The driving scenes on the big screen really gave me the sensation of being in a formula 1 car.

My second choice would be Heart Like a Wheel.

For third pick I'd go with the movie RUSH by Ron Howard. It's a great story.

And Snake & Mongoose fourth. I wouldn't say it's a great movie but I did enjoy it a lot. I don't want to sound like I think I'm some fancy schmancy movie critic, but I think they could have done a better job of character development. They mix in a bunch of old racing footage throughout the movie which is OK, but I don't think it blends in seamlessly. I think I might have preferred to see more of the cars that they built for the movie in action instead. All in all I still think it's a good movie. I just had my anticipation up so high that I think maybe I was expecting too much.
