Reverse lights ?

Hi guys !
I'm getting the dart all finished up. I have a later 904 Trans. The plug looks correct. I fallowed the plug from tail light. Looks like it goes to junction plug under driver kick panel. The plug from tranny goes to fire wall in engine bay. Is there a connection from fire wall to that junction or column? No reverse lights. I have electrics diagram. Can't see where it goes from fire wall. Thank you.

What are you working on? My 67 has a reverse switch at the bottom of the steering column.
 
Yes!!! What year is the CAR!!! I believe through 68? had backup lights on the shifter, 69 / later had backup lights on the transmission.

Of course depends on whether car was originally a stick or automatic on the earlier models
 
Yes, my 68 has the back up light switch located at the bottom of the column - console automatic May be different obviously. You should see purple and gray wires that connect to the switch. And 68 and earlier cars have a one pin neutral safety switch and 69 and later have a three pin NS switch.
 
When the reverse lamp switch was moved from inside the cabin to outside they routed those 2 wires through 2 previously unused ports in the far right member of bulkhead connection.

Yep I have a 68 dodge dart. I also have a 1 pin switch on tranny. Column automatic. I will look for the switch on the column. I don't remember seeing that hook up. If I find the switch. Do I run wires the the junction under kick panel. Also is the switch replaceable if it's out. ???

mine is a 68. Let me see what I can find now and then I will check in and see what is next. Thank you. !!!

Its somewhat typical for the pin that operates the column mounted switch to be broken inside the column. If you have the 3 post switch on the trans you can simply route the 2 wires to that switch just like the factory did.

I have the single pin in Trans.
If I get a three pin switch new and instal it. I can run wires from column to the switch ? Or fix the pin switch. ? Sounds easier to to get three pin switch ?

NO. if your trans has the single post single function switch,
Odds are that your trans has the part commonly called rooster comb that will not operate a 3 post switch inside it. Sorry

Bummer. So if all the wires are there I gotta fix the pin in the column ?

Maybe not. You'll need to find and check the switch on the column first. Might not be anything wrong with it.
 
Check the switch mounted on the end of the column by the floor. The column has a black pin that moves over a peg on the switch when you shift to reverse. I am on vacation or I would post a pic.

Ok. The switch and wires are all there. The pin is there. But nothing to activate pin on column. What the heck ??? I can move pin with my finger

Sounds like your plastic pin which activates the switch is broken & missing. I replaced mine with a long screw & nut and have never had a problem since. Of course I had to take off the steering column and work with it on the bench. It's a PITA removing the whole column but you get good at it after you do it half dozen times or so.
 
The switch was supposed to break instead of parts inside the column. Didn't always happen as designed though.

Yep. The switch is good. I can even get lights to go on with my finger. So it looks like I gotta remove column and make a lever.
Ill do it when I put my new bezel and lens in from pg plastic. Just want it good when my girl drives it.

I have an NOS switch back home if you need one. I picked up a couple a few years back when I ran into mine being gonzo.
 
Cool. The pin inside column is gone. The switch and pin with wires is all working. Somehow the lever to push the pin is gone. If your switch will work. I'll buy it ?
