I just got a set of these Mikey Thompson MK-II for a real good price. What do you guys suggest for cleaning these things up? These things are very oxidized but are doable. I am not sure how well you can tell from my pics but I did use some simoniz chrome cleaner on a protion next to my foot but afer about 30 minuts thats about all the farther I got. The chrome cleaner I was using has been out in the garage a few years and is starting to seperate. Anyone have any suggestions? Also does anyone know if center caps are pretty standard in sizes? I would like to get a new set for these.

Are they aluminum?
I used to use Mother's aluminum wheel cleaner when i had aluminum wheels.

I would use a buffing compound (red to clean then white to shine) and a die grinder with a good buffing wheel

Thats what I was thinking also. I think my brother might have one. I might try that stuff evil suggested first.

HEHE your not the first guy who has tried that tonight. I should turn around and resell them cause everyone seems to want them.

umm i used very fine steel wool like sos pads they cleaned my center lines up nice then i jsut took out the mothers polish and shined em up lol,
but a fine steeel wool works good

Have you ever tried a product called "NeverDull". It is a cloth that is soaked in some kind of metal cleaner. I use it for everything from wheels to the wifes silverware. With a little elbow grease it will clean and restore just about anything.

I have used 0001 steel wool and WD 40 on both chrome and aluminum. Then polish it out with Mothers or some other good quality polish. Oh ya. lots of elbow grease, a tendonitus arm band, several beers or some electric lettuce, what ever your preference, a good radio station or your fav cd and you are good to go. :salut:

Tried the WD40 and steel wool out of curiosity. Works pretty well for the absolute simplicity behind it!

Are they a polished or machined finish ? If you want a machined finish look I would not polish them...I am going through the same dilema as I just got my 60's slot back after being machined....

Not sure how to care for them in the future. I was told to clean with acid and wipe dry with a soft cloth.
