I have a 71 340 Demon with a 280H Comp cam and a 727 trans. The idle is rough enough that the exhaust pipes (off stock manifolds but 2.5") hit the crossmember, because of the vicious engine shake. Will solid engine mounts take care of it? What are the side affects of solid mounts? Thanks all.

well solid engine mounts will make you go crazy from the vibrations on a street car. sounds like your exhaust guy didn't allow enough clearance

solid mounts will help. the downfall is you make get some vibration elsewhere. I have same cam with a 4speed. I had the same problem when I put solid mounts in I got vibration and a lot of resonance throughout the car. I had my engine balanced when I rebuilt it and now it is better.

Thanks 66plyValiant. I know the exhaust guy and he is not very smart. Yep, it's me.

Thinking a set of flex tubes on down pipe would help.

Doubt you really want solid mounts on a street car

I agree with Mad Dart, solids are not bad at all. I run solids on my SB stroker, I love them, I will probably never switch back, even if I have a mild motor.

I HAD solids in my 340 Duster with a mild cam and an automatic.

The car was just plain annoying to sit in at a light. It shook the hell out of the car. Put new lock up rubber mounts in and it was a night and day difference.

Engine mounts are rubber for a reason not sure how people can say they don't cause things to vibrate unless you want to drive a race car around?

That cam should not cause the engine to shake violently. Only 230 at .050

I run a solid drivers side and stock passenger side
and trans mount.

If you guys are worried about vibration…. Dump the muscle car and buy a Prius.

This is pretty funny going back and forth if you think about it. "I don't want my 40 year old car to vibrate….. Lol

I also run a solid mount on the driver's side only.

Before & after - no noticeable difference except I know it will never tear apart.

Well I have solid motor mounts and I can't notice because my car is so loud.the only sound that matters in a muscle car is the motor . If u want a quiet car buy a new muscle car and enjoy. Old cars make noise and always need to be worked on.

I'm running solid mounts on my 71 340 4 speed Demon. I personally run solid mounts on all my cars. It just takes away that "what if a mount breaks" scenario. I never really noticed a vibration problem, or even a noise problem. If noise and vibration bother you, anyone that is, you should drive your wife's Lexus. :)

I have been running solid on the driver side and rubber on the passenger with the
Poly spool trans mount on every car I've owned. Mostly to keep the clutch linkage consistent and avoid ripped in two stockers.
No chain or strap needed with a driver side steel mount.
Some engines will vibrate with the steel mount worse than others. Had a E-body that would shake the screws out of the dash like a camero till I glued them all in with weatherstrip adhesive. Mirrors were a useless blur.
The a body's are built better in my opinion and I never had anywhere near as much problems with them shaking apart. Less plastic I would guess.

I`VE HAD A MOTOR PLATE ON A 406 (600 H.P.)chevy vega, never had a problem w/ it,seems to me if everythings balanced right, and all the coresponding parts are right it won`t be a problem.---bob

I have a Schumaker mount on the left and stock on the right. I like no twisting (raising) on the left and quiet inside. I just an old racer who likes a sleeper.

If you think you have vibration issues now , wait till you try the solid mounts , everything you can imagine vibrates . Take your car to a good exhaust shop and have them refit your exhaust system for better clearance at the cross member
