Hi there!
Long time ago I posted some pictures of my 1964 Dart GT.
It was a nice cheap car and an easy fix to bring to life again.

What I really didn't like was its enginebay

We had a lot of fun with this little project. At least it ran quite good and didn't look too bad.

So what to do?

Of course !!! Rip it all apart

And leave it alone for almost 2 years

I started the project early this year :D

Clean little A body. Are you wanting a big block Mopar? Or trying to make it go faster, easier ?

Yes.
Plan is, to build a big block early A.

I found lots of parts at the German Moparforum.

Here is the 440 with a forged crank

And a period correct A833 with a steelbell

So, to put the 440 in, I took my money and gave it to Schumacher.

With this mounts the 440 went in like a glove (beside a small steeringbox hitting nose, I had to cut off the block)

I knew that the tunnel would become a problem, so I didn't mind cutting as much as it took

Testfitting the hump

And replacing a floorboard that was too thin

And after that, I stitched it all together. That was funny

I cannot weld too much. So this is more a piece of fun than of beauty :D

Yes, big blocks are cool, (especially 440's).

But that engine compartment is going to get REAL TIGHT!!!!

Can't wait to see it as you progress.

What are doing for the clutch? Linkage or Hyd.?

Good looking dart with way to much motor, I'm subscribed. I've been thinking of getting my first early A-body to put a 440 4-speed in. You do make it look easy.
Keep posting progress for us, we luv pictures.

make sure you stiffen the chassis good, a 440 in a early dart is a nasty combo.
my younger brother had a 64 dart with a potent 440 and hooker fenderwells, narrowed and tubbed. his only mistake, he didn't tie in the frame, turned it into a pretzel.
it was the early 80's, he was young and ?

Hi!
Yes, I will have to install subframe connectors for sure!
And the clutch will be hydraulic. We will see, which cheapo components I can use.

Just to relax I started lettering the car.
The Dart is called EL CHEAPO since I try to find cheap solutions for any kind of work on the car.
The rest is fun, because the Dart came from Inglewood.

And for inspiration a short testfitting of the little intake :glasses7:

ASTRA....seems to be the food of choice since I see 6 boxes stacked in the background...inspiration,motovation....keep up the good work

Few days later and sauber again...
I began thinking about the exhaust side. There is no room for this!
A crappy set of B-Body headers laying around gave me an idea.
Build them upswept and create some kind of fenderwell headers.

OK. So strip it to do the fenderwells :salut:

This was a good position to start building my headers.

I didn't want to cut a really big hole into the inner fenders, so I had a few beer and came to the idea to cut one little hole for every exhaust pipe. This would keep the structure of the front as it was.

OK. This is not too smart, because I cannot take the headers from the car without cutting them, but I liked the idea more and more :supz:

And now I have to connect the pipes to the rest of my crappy HedmanCompetition header

Have a nice day!

Love the "El Cheapo" logo, you gotta have fun. The headers are interesting, beats the high dollar headers & clearance problems.

Got the passenger side connected

Very little room for the wheel. It is a 195/70 14.
I ordered two 165/70 14. They will give me one more inch distance between collector and wheel.

See you next week :salut:

Headers are similar to the golden commando barracuda.
