My Scamp, '72, 440, 727, 9", pretty much fully restored/resto modded. Needs, well, nothing really. Show quality paint, redone Legendary interior, a few sets of wheels. It's a great car, very fun to drive.

But, and isn't there always a but?

I found a '72 340 Duster, numbers matching car, black with white stripes. Car is 100% stock, shows a bit over 50k miles. It's a auto/console car, and it looks pretty damn nice. Haven't seen it in person yet, trying to get over there this weekend.

My car is insured for $17,000 replacement value, he's asking $13,000 for the Duster. If you were to make the trade, would you go straight across, or try to make the seller come off with some extra trade bait?

NO WAY, NO HOW would I trade a Scamp for a Duster.
Especially a fixed up clean and running Scamp.
The Scamp body style is just too cool.

Trade that wing off for the Duster.:D
That way you would have a better looking Scamp and a Duster too.

I love your scamp, imo I like the scamps much better than the duster, it depends what the duster looks like? have any pics?

would have to see pics of the duster. but if it is a matching numbers car, thats where the money is in the long run. there is somthing about original cars that really gets me.

IMO, Dusters are a dime a dozen, nothing to special about them. Nice cars but the Scamps are way cooler like Trailbeast said. No Way would I make that trade

I really like this car (the Scamp, and the wing). Just a moment of weakness I guess. The more I think about it, you couldn't modify the Duster without killing the value, and where's the fun in that?

Oh well, back to the garage. I've got a hood scoop to install. And a new radiator. And a spring relo kit. And some mini tubs. LOL!

The purist's are going to whine and cry up a storm.;);)
Why? It's an original 318 car that used to be Sky Blue with a blue interior. Not like it was a matching numbers Roadrunner or anything special. Just a grandma car turned hot rod.

I'd Trade, but why do others opinions matter? Its your car, if you like the Scamp keep it and if you like the Duster better trade it.

I would trade in a second! no offense, but your car is a customized car, with limited appeal......That duster is easily worth twice what your car is....and will hold its value, and probally increase in value. Just cause you got your car insured for 17 K don't mean anyone would pay that. TRADE NOW, before the duster owner comes to his senses!

A hot rod for a papered original car? And seeing the pictures - in a heartbeat. Your car is insured for more than it would ever sell for, and it's probably stagnant in value. The original car will only go up, albeit slowly. You can always build another hot rod.

When you can't decide, have both! :) Keep your scamp and just buy the duster....Of course, eventually that runs into more problems because then you need a bigger garage to keep them in and that costs more money....LOL

I had a low mileage original 340 Formula S for a while. It was a nice cruiser, but I quickly got tired of the car show scene. I had the urge to modify it, but was worried I would ruin the value. I sold it and bought a 318 car from California, converted it to a big block and never looked back. It makes me smile every time I drive it. Of course I am an old racer.
