Take a look at this gas cap, this is not my car but a picture I found on-line, I have the same problem as the cap does not fit correctly in my opinion, shouldn't the face of the cap be flush with the body panel and not stick out. I ordered a stant 10800 cap which is supposed to fit but it doesn't, any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated, thanks, Ed (76 duster)

Does anybody know where to get the correct gas cap?

I picked up a stant cap also to paint and its not right ,I did see them on line for 50$ from a part reproducer but I was afraid I get the wrong one again.at that cost. my duster is a 73.

I have looked for a different cap also, have seen the $50 caps but they look the same as the stant 10800 which is listed as oe for that year model, does anyone have a number for the right cap for a 1976 duster or maybe were you purchased one that will fit

One thing to consider is the filler tube. Some of them fastened to the inside of the quarter and some go through the quarter and fasten from the outside.

As for me I don't remember. BUT if that has been removed at some point and put back in the wrong way that could be the problem, or at least part of it.

What car are we working on here???

1976 duster, that makes sense, it was on the outside when I got the car, but it may need to be installed from the trunk side, thanks

Verify first! I know some were in and some were out depending on year/car.

That's just like my filler tube and it's on the outside. 74 Dart Sport.

Thanks, Bruce, the gasket I got is to large (od) to fit on the outside so I am thinking you are right, sometimes you have to step back and think, have a great day, thanks again, Ed
