I have never had a mopar with an automatic and I am getting married soon and I would love for my new wife to be, to be able to drive a real car. so I am thinking of putting an auto together for a duster.

It is a 73 duster and it has an older year but stock 340 and I have some core SB 727s and a running 904 so I am thinking of going with 904 since I know its a good unit.

I am thinking of going with a reverse pattern valve body to eliminate the kickdown linkage and make it more fun to drive. I will most likely put the auto on the column so all she has to do is pull the shifter down away from "N" to shift. (seems easy enough)

But my question is do I still a stall convertor even with a manual valvebody ??

the 904 I am planning to use came out of a 68 dodge coronet wagon. not sure if a B-body 904 is any different than an A-body. I measured and it looks like it will bolt in

If you are running a stock build on the 340, the stock stall converter will work just fine.

The only thing the manual VB does is eliminate the transmissions ability to shift on it's own.

Thanks for the rapid response and its exactly what I wanted to know. FABO kicks a** :supz::supz:

If you do the reverse manual valve body and use the factory column shifter, make very sure she is totally aware that "D" is 1st gear, and "1" is 3rd (or "Drive), the engine will really hate trying to do 65 in "D".

good point. I think I saw a shift indicator re-labeling kit on ebay. That would be really messed up to to get it wrong :banghead:

Manual valvebody on column will be a bit annoying me thinks. I'd pop that column lever off and put a floor shifter in like a b&m star or megashifter. I like manual valve bodies as well, I prefer to pick my shift points even while just cruising. A clutchless manual :)
