I was looking through the local ads and found this 1976 spirit of 76 Dodge Dart lite spirit of 76 car,the body is rock solid and still has all the original parst like the hood and trunk lid the bumper braces and the 3spd with o/d the original seats still in place but need some help.I have the original motor but it needs to be rebuilt,I have all the documentation to back up what this car is,my question is,does anyone have any idea how many Dodge dart lite spirit cars were made?I found info that told me that there were just under 1000 lite cars made but how many spirit of 76 dart lites were made,I know it would be a guess but how many may remain?and should I change the k frame and go BIG BLOCK,or rebuild the 6

ok first off where in lake placid are ya from? and where did you find a rust free car in that area..lol we are up that way quite a few times a year. was up for the saranac lake Winter Carnival and skiing. then again this past feb to ski... the inlaws live in wilmington ny. will be back up there in july. :)

and should I change the k frame and go BIG BLOCK,or rebuild the 6

thats all personal preference. not sure how many were made. i haven't seen one that i can recall at any cruise nights or shows but that doesn't mean they are worth anything more than any other slant 6 dart sport either. what exactly do you want to do with the car?

sure you know where this is..lol

Well im not sure about not being worth more then any other slant 6 the more rare the more money with any other car why not this one?and I don't have any plans yet I just got it and want to get more info.I got this car from the second owner and he bought it from the dealership where he worked when it was traded in,he was a mopar mechanic he drove it for a while then bought a cuda and put this in the garage, later he sold it and the motor went and it went back in a garage. The guy he sold it to never titled it and the second owner has a brother who is a local guy I know and we spoke the title was still in the second owners name.

Don't know any numbers, but I doubt many are around anymore. I worked at a dealership back then and we only got 1. I almost bought it but was pressured buy the other guys and even the owner to go Aspen instead.I like it.It would go nice with my brothers 1976 Spirit of 76 Harley-Davidson Sportster.

.

rare does not mean desirable is all i'm saying. most will look at it as a 76 dart sport with a slant 6 in it. it would have to have the right buyer to pay good money for that car. there are a lot less buyers out there for that car then say a 340 70 dart, a 67-69 gts dart. know what i mean?

Like Mr. Dangerfield, the slant six get no respect. It's you car, your call. Anyway you do it it sure will be a nice car.

I was looking through the local ads and found this a 1976 Dodge dart lite spirit of 76,the car is rock solid and was wondering if anyone had any info on how many dodge dart lite spirt of 76 cars were made,I do have all the documentation and about 95% of all the original parts the 6cyl needs a rebuild or I can go BIG BLOCK,Idid do a bit of research and what I came up with was Dodge made just under 1000 lite cars in 76?but how many Dart lite 76 cars,I did trace down the second owner and he said at the time of the purchace of this car only around 200 had been sold to that date,I bought the car from the 3rd owner who blew the motor and never titled it,the car has been in a garage for the past 16years..The info im getting is still unfolding..

Old Rodney may not have gotten respect, but he sure was rare and valuable..I do know what you mean.. but the right guy is somewhere..

It does look to be nice car.

If you are worried about low production numbers and value then put the original motor back in it.

Nice car.
Love the whole 1976 bicentennial thing.
I was seven years old, and I will always remember that summer.
Vegas and Novas had similar paint.
I am really interested in survivor cars.
Shame to change anything.
The more you can leave undisturbed the better.
I know its not the hot rod you want that way.
I bought my 67 to restomod but car is way to nice.
It's been in the survivor tent at Carlisle and the Nats for the last 7 years.

I'm not worried at all,I'm thinking to drop the original k frame and replace it with one I can modify for a BB, and at a later date rebuild the 6 mount it on the original k frame and save it,I know I would have to change the torsion bars and the rear end and do brakes I would save and rebuild those item as well, I'm not sure when I will start all this,I guess maybe when I think I have all the info and opinions I need.

Great Car, I have been looking for one and that one looks real nice. You don't have to change the K, Schumacher engine swap mounts should work.

Wasn't that for sale? I just saw that on CL or somewhere... I would leave it alone personally.

The ad was good, but sounded like the car was apart even though the pics show it intact. I'm in the market for something slanty and stick shift which was why I looked at it. I think it's a really cool car.

I have to agree with those who say leave it alone-- if you want a hot rod, you'll very likely be better off taking care of the odds and ends in that car, selling it to someone who loves it (and is likely nostalgic for the mid 1970s) and finding a V8 car to get started.

Just my opinion. I think that "Spririt of '76" machine should be saved. :)

That interior is just too cool.

Nice Dart. Like others have said, build it how you would enjoy it the most. For me personally, I'd love to have an 8 cyl again as much as the next guy, but with the cost of gas these days I think I'll stick with my /6. I figure since I'm just cruising around enjoying the car the /6 will get me around just as well as an 8 cyl, but for a little less in fuel costs, speeding tickets, and insurance surcharges. I had enough of those when I was younger with my 72 and 75 Chevelles. Besides that, the /6 is a pretty reliable little engine.

I'm not sure how long ago, 8 or 10 years, I could have bought the hang ten edition for 400 bucks. Slant 6, 3 speed manual trans. Bent fender and a mirror knocked off. Replacement parts were included. I've never liked either of those dress up schemes.
I've often wondered, If I did drive a spirit of 76 car to the cruise-in, how many spectators would ask, "What year model is it ?" LOL

Sweet car - but one of those that usually has more value to the owner than anybody else. I always noticed the interior in those and the Hang 10s but never thought I was the right personality to be caught driving one.

I did buy the car,the engine needs to be rebuilt and that's why I asked 6cyl or go 8cyl I know Schumacher makes a mount but you have to cut the K frame down a bit, making it impossible to put the 6 back in its original nest,do they make a set in not aware of.

I did buy the car and still thinking what to do,I know Schumacher makes a kit but you have to cut down the original K frame making it Impossible to put the 6 back in its original nest.what type of personality do you have not to be able to drive a cool car?

Nice car.
Bust its cherry, big block it.
Or do this engine.

As far as value, isn't every car more valuable to its owner(unless they don't know what they have)I guess my point is if Im going to put money into any car, isn't it best to put money into a rare, low production number car then one that they made a million of?(so to speak)unless you got it from a family member who bought it new,I don't think it will cost me a lot to swap the motor because the body is nice, even if I put 10k into the drive line is it worth it?what would the car sell for if it was mint with a 440 that looked like it was installed from the factory. Not sure what road to go down..
