Price of "A" bodies in Canada

Some decently priced like the '67 Dart I posted about seems to be there. Others though seem to be a little high. Found this '71 Duster here in BC. $20,000 seems a little high to me. (No I'm not looking to buy this duster)

340 - 372 stroker. 475 HP. This has been my baby for 16 years. Looks good, lots of fun & very fast. To much to list.

Then you have this '74 Hang Ten I posted earlier which everyone got a good laugh about :D

But I swear last year cars like this were all below $20k?

I do know though "flippers" are more prevalent now. At least three of the mopars I've looked at this year are being sold by guys who picked them up for $12,000, polished the paint, and relisted them for a $6,000 to $8,000 profit.

One car had nothing done to it, last year was $22,000 and not listed for $32,000!
 
Just not as many to go around up here. Years ago, the hot ticket for us Ontarians was to go out west and snap them up cheap. You westerners caught on and adjusted your prices. Southern Ontario and east ward is the rust belt of Canada. Now we all have to travel south to find the deals.

BC sadly doesn't have the population that Ontario does sadly. Very few cars being sold around here this year it seems. Pickings are pretty slim. If the Government didn't tax us on used vehicles then it would be a lot easier to find something South of the border... the taxes and the exchange rate really kill it for me.
 
That, and you just don't see as much up here as you do south of the border. Ever scour Craigslist in Washington and surrounding states? It's full of cool old iron for good prices. Try the same in BC, a lot less cars for a lot more money. They figure because you don't see many of their car, that it's worth an arm and leg, no matter what condition.
 
From what I am seeing I think you can buy a nice southern rust free car for about 60 to 75% of what they are priced for in Canada. The 72 RR you posted wouldn't bring 50% of what they were asking for it in this area. The Canadian dollar is $1.10 to the US $1.00 so that would take up 10%. If you are going to ship a car from eastern Canada I would guess that it would cost about the same to ship a car out of the California area.


This one has been on the market for a while and a dealer has it.

Good deals are out there, you have to shop around to find them and be ready you pull the trigger when the right one comes around.

As for "good deals" I might have found one. Just waiting to hear back from the seller and hoping to pull the trigger on it if my luck holds.
 
Interesting connection, I bought my '70 Duster parts car from the guy who built that '69 Barracuda you have pictured above. He used to tow a '69 camper trailer behind it to car show and do burnouts with the trailer attached.

Even paying the fees I still think you can save money and have a far better selection. Haul it yourself, pay for your vacation and still save money over shipping costs. I see quite a few nice cars that are priced right in the Washington and Idaho areas.

I just used the RR as an example of the huge price differences between here and there. Unless a dealer has it the RR won't sell at the price around here. Maybe 7K to 8K and it wouldn't be a fast sale.

there's a guy in town who used to use a Demon to pull the trailer he carried his other mopars on- he said the trailer actually took so much weight off the back of the Demon that he had a hard time not doing burnouts with it.

I still kick myself. Around 99-00, I could've bought an original 70 340 4 spd Swinger in Plum Crazy for 10k in Saskatoon. That's my dream A body. Why didn't I go for it? I was in my early 20s, only had a 86 shorty Dodge as a tow vehicle, and Saskatoon was a world away from me in Ontario. At that age dropping $10k on a toy was daunting, and I had to pass on it. 15 years later, they've gone up another $10k and are completely out of reach.
 
I had a chance to buy a '71 Charger Super Bee for $4500. All it needed was a good wax on the paint. This was back in '98 and I was still in highschool.

I also knew where a '70 Charger was that had a Daytona wing on it (never had a nose cone) that was sitting in a guy's garage. Prestine condition, $10,000. Tried to talk my dad into buying the car but he refused. Supposedly had a blue crushed velvet interior. This was 6 years ago or so.

I do know where a '69 Dart GTS 340 4-speed is sitting in someone's barn. Last I checked the guy didn't really want to sell it although supposedly about $5,000 could have bought the car. This was 2 years ago. Car is still there to this day.
 
It's a pretty simple equation, the "steals" which are subjective to everyone are far and few between, the really good solid clean original car will still command a good dollar, why, because the price isn't cheap enough for the locals, so someone with $$$ will come along because it's a "steal" to them and buy it.

Issue is, the hobby is always looking for the "steal" instead of total value. Kind of like the dollar store syndrome!
