High Volume oil pump clearance issues?

You will have to bang out the oil pan for clearance for the high volume pump, but it can be done.


You can also put in a high pressure spring in the oil pump for more pressure, in either the stock or high pressure pump. They are MP parts and available at Mancini racing. You have to pull the cup plug out of the pump and replace the spring, then put in a new cup plug. Make sure that you put the cup plug in the proper way, it is backwards from what you do with the block cup plugs. Also don't drill it when you remove the plug, the chips can cause the oil pump to fail. Use a punch with a sharp blow with a hammer to punch a hole in it, then use a sheet metal screw with a washer under it to pull the cup plug out.

Here is a picture of the stock oil pump/distributor drive shaft/gear and the beefier MP distributor. Notice that the MP one does not "neck" down as much and is stronger:
