I was cruizin' to the MATS in Las Vegas with a big group of Mopars on Thursday. Car was running a little warmer than normal, but I didn't think too much about it while we were in town. I figured it would cool off on the highway.....

After leaving our scheduled gas stop in Wickenburg, we headed North on 93 towards Kingman. If you're not familiar with this stretch of highway, it's desolate desert for many miles....... I keep watching the temp gauge and it's not coming down, so I kick on the auxiliary electric fans. No worries right ?

Damn, it's still not cooling down. Temp 210* > 220* > :banghead: 2 lane highway with cars whizzing by @ 75mph & no safe place to pull over urrrrrgh

@ 230* I figured I had to give up, knowing something was wrong :sad1: With sustained elevation climbs coming up, I knew it was trailer time or blow the engine.

Oh well, the 1st 120 miles were fun :)

I run nothing but mopar caps, aftermarket ones suck and either cause too much pressure or not enough

This cap is only a couple years old, but ?? Crappy timing for it to fail too :wack:

I'll check the Mopar dealer for a new one.....thanks!!

Well that stinks.

It sure did....Of all times for the POS to fail :disgust:

That sucks C! Glad ya put it on the trailer though! Consequences like ya said woulda been way worse!

As much as I hated to finish the cruise on the trailer, I knew it was the best decision. I'd have been much more angry @ myself if I blew the engine :sign3:

I was still able to cruise it around in Vegas without any issues, so not a big deal I guess :thumrigh:.......Thx

I'm sorry C. Maybe include a new cap in your tool kit. That bites. But the silver lining is it was something just about as small as it could be. I am glad of that part.

:thumblef: Thanks Rob.....We carry lots of xtra parts, but a radiator cap never crossed my mind. You are right about the silver lining, cheap easy fix at least!!

I was sweating bullets @ 230* for several miles trying to decide WTH to do and where to pull over. A small turn lane came along & I used it to stop & load up. At least it felt a little safer being off the highway a bit.....

Yup nothing worse then a temp gauge going up or oil pressure going down.
Glad you used your head and it was a small fix.

My 70 RR would drop oil pressure to 0 at times at red lights one night. Scary! Replaced the relief valve in the pump and all was good.
