Fuel tank strap rubber?

My bro-in-law was over here and said I'm supposed to have rubber between my tanks straps and the tank. I've never seen that on my Mopars before. Is there something I'm missing here? I have the pad on the top but nothing on the straps and there was nothing on them when I pulled the tank and had it serviced after I bought the car.
 
I swapped out the tank on my 66 and used the old straps. Wasn't any rubber to be seen there on them...
 
Nope. If you had a plastic tank you would have hard rubber or plastic liners between tank and strap.
 
Thanks. He's been a body man for 40 years so I didn't want to immediately discount what he said. Now I can call him a dumba**. Just made this weekend coming up even sweeter.
