Hey guys:

I have a friend who is considering selling his motorcycle. He's 63 and no longer confident of his ability to handle it.

I'm not a motorcycle guy, so I'm going on what he told me:

1998 V-Star 1100. He didn't recall how many miles. I know he didn't ride at all last summer and now it needs a new battery, which he will do. I've seen the bike in the past and it looked very presentable.

What would be an "in general" range to ask for something like this assuming it is completely roadworthy and looks good?

I paid $3200 for a 98 1400 Intruder back in '05.

I sold in '12 for $1500.

Had 20K when I got it and 32K when I sold it.

Ran decent but had some issues, mostly bad chrome.

A co-worker was trying to sell an '06 750 Shadow for about 3 grand last year.

Search craigs and see what people are asking for comparable models.

Look it up on kbb and nada and price it between the two. While looking up dual sports kbb seemed to be on the low side and nada seemed to be on the high side. So somewhere in the middle should be close.
