I recently purchased a bolt on Six pack hood scoop from UP22 and 5 weeks later I got it and they didnt send the mounting hardware like they were supposed to. The quality wasnt that great, but I fixed the spots they messed up on. I had to do some trimming to sit correctly on the center of the hood. Once I got that done I test fitted it.
I found center on the hood for the back of the scoop and center on the front part of the hood where I wanted the scoop. After that I took a sharpie and outlined where the scoop was gonna go and my scoop had a 2" lip for mounting so I measured it out on my hood so I knew where to drill my holes.

I chose where I wanted my holes to be. After that I placed the scoop back on the hood and just stuck the 1/8" drill bit back thru the holes that I predrilled in the hood to drill the scoop, so the holes would be lines up. Once I did that, I began sanding the hood down to baremetal where the scoop was marked out, so I could bond it to the hood with bonding adhesive. While I was at it, I cut a hole in the hood to get air to the motor. A 5 gallon bucket worked good for this for the size of hole I wanted. I didnt want to cut the whole scoop section out and have to brace the hood afterwards.

I had to make some of the holes I drilled bigger in the inner bracing to be able to get my washer and nyloc nut in so the scoop could be tight as possible to the hood. I chose to use 1/4"x20x3/4" long stainless bolts with washers and nyloc nuts to help hold the scoop to the hood as well as the bonding adhesive, so I just redrilled my holes to fit my 1/4" bolts.

I sanding the hood and bottom of the scoop with 50 grit sandpaper so the bonding adhesive had something to bit into to help hold it as well. I then applied my bonding adhesive to the scoop, I applied more than I needed but I wanted it to ooze out so I knew it would be plenty and put in a couple of bolts in the scoop to help line it up to the hood as I was sitting it down for the last time. Once it was down I started putting my bolts in and tightening them up. I started in the back and tightened from side to side until all the bolts were tightened.

Having the hole in the center of the hood helped me to get a wrench on the bolt to be able to tighten.

Thats all that I have done so far as of lastnight, I will be finishing this in the coming couple of weeks. I will be using seam sealer to "mold" the scoop into the hood. Its flexible and paintable, so hopefully I wont have any cracking issues with fiberglass between the hood an the scoop, I will smooth it out around the scoop to make it looks like its always been a part of the hood.

Looks great and a very good job on the prep 360 Scamp :thumleft::thumleft:

Thanks guys, I will keep this thread updated as much as possible. Alot of projects going on at once. Im sure everybody can relate. But like I said it should be done in the next couple of weeks.

One question, once I got my hood off, my hinges are really loose. It looks to be loose because of the rivets. Whats the best way to fix this?.....hammer and a vise and tighten them back up?

* is your air cleaner going to stick up through the hood ??
your cut-hole looks to be centered in the hood, and your carb isn't centered under the hood ...
* what adhesive did you use?

I know the carb is not centered, I just wanted it in the center.

I used 3M Bonding Adhesive, I will have to look at it when I get home and I will let you know

That's going to look so good!

You cutting and connecting for ram air?

What seam sealer you using? Oh ic. How 'bout some pics of the smoothing blending process?

How much is that scoop? It's quite nice.

Subscribed. I'm going to be doing the same thing with a Hemi scoop in a month or so.

Looks really good!

As of right now ram air isnt going to happen, eventually down the road most likely I will

I havent got any seam sealer yet, Im gonna do some research before I choose a seam sealer first.

I will get some pics of the smoothing process as soon as I get seam sealer

The scoop was $139 from UP22, shipping was $45! When I got the scoop, the scoop was in the box....no packing material nothing!!! The part number is PR-53

Thanks for the good words guys. Im so ready to finish this project, its gonna look awesome

I like it. I did one in 2003 on a 72 dodge dart. It cracked but I used bondo and now I know better.

Looks good I bought mine from up22 as well, it took 4 weeks for them to make it. I just got done mounting it

That looks great ! I did mine the old fashioned way, without the inward flange. Your's looks clean ,& a hell of a lot easier.

I got the underside of the hood sanded(fingers wore to the bone) and primed. I started with 80 grit and went to 180 then used a red Scotch brite to get any sand scratches that might show through. I touched up the bare metal spots with etch primer and then 2K primer. Hopefully gonna be able to get the top side filled and primed by monday. I have a couple of dings to try and tap out and feather edge some rock chip spots.

As I was prepping the underside of the hood the green paint was flaking off when sanding, so someone didnt take the time to do it right and probably just shot the paint without prepping it. So I had to get all the green paint off so I knew my paint job would stick for the long haul
