Are both hoses the same size? I thought one was bigger down at the heater box.

Does anyone know how the factory retaining clips work? I don't understand how they hold the hoses in place. Maybe no one is reusing them?

The retaining clip hooks over the wire at the top of the tube, and slides over the snout of the dash vent! You have to like it through the material of the tube however, and if you're using an old tube you know how delicate that can be! When installed, the clip is on the inside of the tube, and the clip has a barb that digs into the side of the snout to keep them from coming off! The clamp seems to be just for looks, or maybe to help seal the top!

The original tubes are 2.5" at the top and 2" at the bottom! That bushing in the pic above looks like a good remedy for the long search and high price of the original tubes, as all other Mopars besides A bodies use a 2.5" tube all the way up!

Hope this helps, geof

The different sizes were meant to clear the drivers side of the glass faster than the passengers side. Earlier tubes didn't have the levered clamps on any end. Only little barbs held them in place.
I heard or read before that the clamps were added later to prevent air loss.

If you look closely at the top pic, you can make out the clip that was inserted onto the top defroster vents. Used 2 on each vent (as the factory did). You can see the hose fit over it with a little interference fit and the clip will retain the hose and keep it from falling off.
the second pic just shows both hoses slipped over the rubber collars...they also fit with slightly more interference and are held on pretty tightly.

original mopar hoses were unique one tapered to fit onto the heater box end.

A/C cars are another topic.
