Geez what is with the prejudice against bench seats

-
I prefer bench seats they are old school the dart I have now I cant have a bench in it due to wat I am doing with it but the 96 ram I have has the bench seat out of a 56 Dodge truck after I broke the back part of the seat

My car came originally with the base model spit bench seat. 30 years ago I found a 70 Duster in the junk yard with a split bench with fold down arm rest. I bought the seat for $5.00! I intend to use it in my car for an OE upgrade.

x2 on date night - bench seat, freshly saddle-soaped...a hard right turn (nobody wore seat belts back then) and boom, your date was right next to you. :)

damn, i forgot all about being able to get a gal close to you that way. my next seat will be all vinyl like it originally was to begin with. now its cloth in the center and vinyl around the edges so its easier to deal with in the hot summer months. :burnout:

Bucket seats in my 66 Sport Fury, 68 Charger, and previous cars including a 69 Sport Satellite. They were a real pain when having to slide in and out of one side or another for repair work, plus the console. My 68 Barracuda has a bench seat, split fold down center section, and I'm keeping it that way. Buckets look good and I'll keep them in the other cars, but from now on I'll probably stick to bench (the dating thing would have been near the top of my list when I was young).

It's the dreaded "P" word: Practicality. Bench seats give versatility in seating, even allowing the driver to shift around quite a bit on long drives. Of course there are other activities inside the car which are made less of a challenge with a bench arrangement.

I'm convinced it's the same reason some folks won't give a four-door a second glance.

That said, I'm considering putting buckets in my Valiant. The front bench needs a thorough rebuild - again - and some buckets kind of dropped into my lap. I won't toss the bench just yet, though. There's room in the attic.
