Im wanting to get a new headliner for my 65 dart gt. It is not a show car will I need to remove front and back window to get it installed? Thanks dustin

I just finished doing my Sport Fury headliner. I didn't remove the windows. Yes, it would be easier with them out.

This was my first try at a headliner. I know my second time will go better. I used way too heavy material, sort of a sunbrella/canvas type stuff they had at the store. I had the old headliner as a pattern so was able to sew bow pockets where the old ones were. Side note, I glued in trunk liner stuff for a sound deadener on the ceiling.

At the back window of my car were a couple wires poking out from the sheetmetal to hook to the rear bow. Not sure if your Dart is the same. Here's a photo of one:

These hooks attach to the rear bow, then I could pull the headliner tight to the front of the car and start at the front windshield. I had enough material to get a good grip and pull tight, then hooked into the little spikes at the windshield. I used a little contact cement also. I then went to the rear window, pulled tight again and hooked the center part into the spikes. Then working from the front along the sides, I hooked the edges to the spikes along the window frames. I do have some puckering in spots but I feel I would have gotten a much better stretch if I hadn't used what is basically unstretchable canvas... Live and learn. Here's a finish shot:

The install took me about 5-6 hours I'd guess, but that was including putting the 5,000 screws back in the trim. Ok, maybe not 5,000. Maybe 4,000. It also doesn't help when I put the first piece of trim in only to find out I had to take out those first 1,000 screws I just put in because I didn't put in the piece that was supposed to go first...

Sorry for the long post. Good luck with your install. You can do it.
