Sorry to jump into your conversation but....
Its the tire diameter and width that is a concern- not necessarily the rim diameter. Rim offset would be an equal concern to tire diameter.
If you are hitting the front fender edge- then you have too much tire diameter. If you are rubbing the inner fender at full lock- then you have either too wide a tire or too much back set.

Thanks for clarifying this. For VADart, he wanted to know if my sizes would work with his car if he used 1" narrower wheel, the fact still remains that if he uses the same combination of tire and rim I have, it will cause a problem unless you are extremely careful and spread the lower front fender out. VA, I'm not sure about the OD width of drum brake vs disc brake, maybe another member could shed some light on this. If the tracking is narrower the they may work for you.
