He is nearing completion of his 1983 mustang hatch back. He is putting a 351 out of a 1985 van with a mild cam, otherwise stock. 5 speed and 2.73 gears open rear end.


He says he will win against my 71 duster all stock 340/727 with 3.91 sure grip.






He's not gonna know what hit him...
 
Spank him! .........or should I say Dust him! lol
 
The old saying (The one that does the boasting will stumble) so drive smart and do your home work on your tire pressure and tune and take him out with a humble smile :D
 
Make sure somebody films it.........it should be a nice lasting memory for you

If he has scored a 351 HO motor that could have been in that van, it will be a good race if his rear end stays together.
 
83' Mustang Hatchback GT V8 weighs 3160. 1985 4bbl 351 has 210hp / 305 ftlb in stock trim.

71 Duster V8 Auto weighs 3,353 and has 275hp in stock trim.

Assuming you really know what your buddy has ;) This really shouldnt' be a race.. you have more gear, a posi and an auto so your launch and shifts will be quicker.

Only time will tell. Let us know.
 
Keep in mind too, the T5 can't handle much over stock HP/TQ levels.....pretty weak transmissions. Don't ask me how I found that out

Also, take your rear seat and spare tire out, may gain a couple tenths saving 100 lbs...
 
LOL... I have a 'grudge match" set with my neighbor and his '64 Fairlane.
He has a 390 tri-power with 3.91 gears.
Mine is a 340 with 4.56 gears. Last year all I had was some skinny tires that came on it for transport and couldn't get it to hook up at all at any speed.
Now I have some 295/60/15 tires and have done some tuning and general de-crapifying of several things.

Hopefully should be ready for a test run by this weekend... hopefully.
Maybe a couple of fat-bottomed girls in the back seat would help with traction.

stock 351w have small ports ,very low compression, a stock 302 with a small cam will out preform a stock 351,been there done that.
 
Make sure you grab out of the whole and SPANK HIM till his rear is so red he can't sit down for a week !
 
I say that if you walk it out of the hole and then floor it, you should spank him.
His biggest enemy is his rear gears and he doesn't have a Track-Loc.
If the gears etc. were the same as yours, i think it would be close.

Why is it that none mopar guys think no mopar is fast. I have respect for all makes and models and types of builds...yet my buddies bash my mopars as well. Sheesh
 
If he had better gears, I would say it would be a good race. It will not.

ESPECIALLY the later 5.0 factory zero deck height GT40P engines. Like I am fixin to stab into my Bobcat.
 
Mustang has no chance. Rear end ratio says it all. Auto will keep it tighter also.

IME chevy guys bash mopars and fords. They hate losing, always have BS excuses why..

Ford guys IME have always been cool to mopar guys. Kind of like 2 black sheep.
 
Putting a 351 out of a van in it will make less power than his original 302, and then some 2.73 gears on top of that, that mustang is going to be one serious dog. From the looks of his combo hes on his way to a 14 second pass.

The car was a v6... he's putting a 351/tranny/rear end in it.
 
B.S. talk and Losers walk. most people think there stuff is fast until they go to the track and then they really see whats what. Just have the time slip blown up to poster size and give it to him on his birthday. My son ran one of the guys that works for me 67 340 Barracuda vs 350 Camaro and the loser had to wear a hat for a year the Camaro lost and he had to wear a pink hat that said I'm gay and proud of it and under that it said MOPAR OR NO CAR you can't believe the stuff said about that hat and how could you lose to a mopar.
