I have an A body 8 3/4 that im working on to put in my Dart. it is currently and unknown open geared 741 case. I found for sale a SG 3.23 742 center section for sale. would I be able to just directly swap the two centers without issue (other than required gaskests and seals)?

realy? no issue at all?! what about yokes?

also, is the clutch style Sure Grip a good suregrip? strictly DD street use with occasional autox and drag racin is the cars future

IF the yoke is different, just pick up a conversion U joint, problem solved.

While you're at it, you might as well change out the inner seals too, as well as end gaskets.

Yes, the clutch style is a good suregrip, they both are really, but I prefer the clutch style as it can be easily rebuilt, whereas the cone can be but it requires machining, shimming etc.

thanks that's very helpful. im horribly under-educated with rear ends. ease of rebuild is always a good thing tho!

my rear will also need axles and brakes swapped as well cuz im changing the bolt pattern, but that can come later. it aint in the car yet

Gonna have to shorten the driveshaft some if your car didnt already have an 8 3/4"!! The driveshaft from a 7 1/4" car will be too long!!

That too. He didn't mention if this was original to the car or a swap.

oh I knew id have to shorten my driveshaft. the car currently has a 7 1/4 connected to a /6. does the drive shaft need to b beefed up at all or does it just need to be shortened? how short?

The best approach is to measure it. You will want to contact whatever shop you choose to do this and ask them HOW they want you to measure it. Different shops have different methods.

When you do get to that point, make sure the car is sitting full weight on the suspension when you measure.
