So some days at the swap meet are better than others. I'm tootling along in the big Portland swap meet looking for the one Mopar part among thousands of Ford and Chevy pieces and there's a little used set of what appear to be A-body race headers. They all come apart with slip tubes and the little bolt tabs, they've obviously been on an engine and run some, but there's no rust and no road rash on the bottom. They have some dents like from being hauled around in a pickup and one small crack that can be accessed for repair inside the head flange, so I ask what the story is. The guy says he bought several sets of headers from a out of business machine shop that ran in engines on a stand for break in. So I pick them up for... wait for it.... $50!!! They intigue me because one side looks like my Headman Hussler race header in my race car with one tube in the fenderwell, but the other side has this bizarre up in the air loop to get the length for the tube. So I'm puttying them in the car to go home and I'm looking for a part number or give away that says who made them and there it is - Dirct Connection with the two little arrow stamped on one of the pipes!

So picture are below. Can a racer from back in the day tell me anything about them: when sold, who made 'em, what they were intended for (I can't imagine anything but drag car with two driver's side front tubes going down through the K-frame). Anything you can tell me is appreciated, but otherwise just enjoy a bit of DC history!

For sale?
Had a freind, that had a set on a Stocker in the mid 80's.

Haven't decided. I was going to keep them around until I'm pulling the Heddman headers out of my race car anyway, put them in place and see if they present any advantages...

I had a set like that in the early 1980's. They were made by a company called JR. 1 7/8 tube. I welded a collector flange on them and ran them on the street.

So here I am at Carlisle in the endless search for really cool parts for cheap! I'm walking around and here sits a set of painted black race headers all taken apart in a pile and there is that odd passenger side back pipe that loops up in the air next to the valve cover! and looking them over here a metal tag welded on the headers saying Hedman Hussler. So there is one mystery solved - Hedman made race headers for Direct Connection. So these header have been used a bit - no rust but the front pipe that goes down through the K-frame is pretty beat-up, but hey, iut would be great to have some individual replacement pipes if something goes wrong with the DC set. So I offer the guy $50 and they are mine!

So how do you get a set of long tube race headers from PA to Washington State? would you believe that the disassembled headers fit in one of the travel bins I brought to take parts home? It was like 30 minutes of solving a jig saw puzzle but it all went in!

Can't wait to see how these fit in the engine compartment, and how they compare to my year old Hedman Husslers (hard to tell with then still in the car.

Good to know, those are gorgeous. Rocket's post,is interesting. Seen a set of JR headers,in the day. Nice craftmanship.
