You can use either, the older models had the pipe, later years did not. Most replacement pumps will not have the pipe. I don't know for sure but a V8 nipple may be the same
I may be wrong but I have torn down a few later /s ( 80s versions ) and they all had the pipe, evidently when you buy a new pump they do not come with the pipe and they expect you to use your old one.
