Have a 741 case, 1-3/8" pinion.

Did some research, and found some information that says the seals for 1-3/8" and 1-7/8" pinions are the same, even though some part numbers say they're different.

The second link lists the national part number 8515N. I had my buddy cross reference that number and order me a seal. I got an SKF# 18708 (same C/R# is listed for 1-3/8 and 1-7/8".

After measuring the I.D. of the seal, it seems way too large to me. Measured out to be approx. 1-7/8" diameter. Isn't this too large for a 1-3/8" pinion? Does anyone know the I.D. of a 1-3/8" pinion seal?

Don't want to take the yoke off and pop the seal out just to find I have the wrong seal, especially since all the part stores around here would have to order a seal in and I'd be waiting with the car on jack stands.

Thanks

After looking at one of the links, you might already have the correct one.

Excellent, thanks for all the input and info.

Bad Sport, no worries, I didn't take it that way at all. I'm here to learn and get info, so whatever places are easier for parts ordering and getting info from are helpful. I'll have to add that site to my favorites, maybe use it I the future.

Thanks again everyone, appreciate the help!

Finally got my carrier gasket, so hopefully be able to get some wrench time on the car this weekend.Final question is about rear end fluid.I'm picking up a bottle of the Mopar Limited Slip additive for the SureGrip. As far as gear oil, I was planning on using Castrol Hypoy C 80W-90. Now, it says on the back it meets requirements for conventional AND limited slip diffs. Exceeds GL-5 & MT-1 specs.Has anyone ever used it? Since it says it meets requirements for limited slip do I still need the additive? What could be the drawback of using the oil AND the additive if the oil already has some sort of additive in it?Thanks

Regardless of what is printed on the bottle of gear lube, you need limited slip additive for any tight sure-grip.
