I took a camshaft out of a 360 LA long block. The only number on the distributor gear end was 882150. Any idea who's grind it is?

Anything at all on the front journal?

On the shaft between the first lobe and the hub is 1136 in cast . The shaft also has purple on it but I can't find it in any catalog.

What is the actual lobe lift? That's what you need to refer to.

No, it's not. That's the entire lobe height including the base circle. You cannot measure lobe lift in that way, because there's no telling where the lobe is on the core. You have to either set it up in an engine and measure the actual lobe lift, or set it on V blocks on the journals on a work bench and measure the lobe lift. You cannot just stick a caliper around the entire lobe and measure it. It doesn't work that way.

caliper it across the round (smallest part) and then up to the tip of the lobe (largest part), find the difference and multiply by 1.5. That will get you VERY close. First/last 2 are exhaust so measure 2 and 3rd for ex and in. Measuring it off a V-block with a dial indicator will measure the lobe lift off the base circle (zero it on base circle) just like measuring the lobe lift and subtracting the base circle with calipers, although calipers are usually not as precise and cant pick up the hydraulic ramp. Magnum cams use a 1.6 rocker, LA use a 1.5 (BS..cough!) rocker.
