My son sent me a link to this video. Flowmaster tests 8 different mufflers on a Challenger that's running a 408 stroker so you can hear the difference in sound between them. I thought you guys might find this helpful.

This clip is a great find. Thanks for sharing. Very good to see interior db readings, too. I didn't notice a crossover pipe on the test car, which explains the rap I thought I heard.

I thought it might help guys decide which ones to choose. I know it's gotten to be pretty common for people to use Flowmasters. The fact that they were doing the test on a Mopar with a 408 might make it more relevant to hear. I found it easier to distinguish the differences if I cranked the volume up when listening to the tests.

Anyone considering running Flowmasters should do their research by searching for threads about them. You won't bother listening to sound bytes if you do.

That sure is a piss poor runnin Challenger for a 408.

Yup that thing is a f***inn DOG! Cam installed wrong and a lazy timing curve is probably it! Lol

Oh.... That testing was done no more than 2 miles from my house. I live to the right on that hill you see in the back ground. Pretty Funny!

I put the Delta 44 on my 408 Duster and it was very loud with a annoying blat.. So I installed an balance tube and it quieted it down quite a bit and sound good when you get on it... But is also not to loud when you want to be quiet...Bill

I was running 2 1/2 exhaust and Flowmaster 10 series. It was very loud and rapped on decel. I went to 3" all the way with an h pipe and Flowmaster 40 series. Much more mellow and no rapping. I think I want louder, but I believe I am just going to go with cut outs and call it even. Then I get the best of both worlds.

I initially went with 3" pipe & Flow 40's (with tail pipes) on a 70 El Camino big block (115" wheelbase). Had a drone about 1800-2200 ,went away after that. They like bigger pipes, possibly to flow more across the board. Better mufflers exist.

He did quite a smoke show at the end of the video and it sounded good there...It also sounds like he is taking off in 2nd gear...Bill:cheers::burnout:

I've run the same 3" Flow 30s with an x pipe for 10 years. It's pretty loud, but also a race car. Had Super 44s on my old 318 truck. They were quiet and had no drone.

FWIW, I run quicker times with the mufflers compared to open pipes (tested the same day, same track, runs 15 minutes apart). Flowmaster haters can take that info for their research.

I went back and watched again. I saw or heard nothing I was impressed with. Your bar must be set kinda low.

I have a set of 10 series sitting on the shelf. Cant wait to hear them paired up with some step TTI's, 3" tube w/x-pipe on my 408". I don't think the neighbors will be too happy.

I had super 10s on my 65 Valiant with a 360. I liked them a lot. It was not loud in the car and didn't drone at all. All of the sound was at the rear like it was supposed to be because I had tail pipes on it. It was loud as #*&!! from behind.

My bar is not set low at all.. The whole purpose of the video was to hear the difference between mufflers.. If the guy driving the car jumped on the gas a smoke the tires up you would lose the whole point of the video. Who really knows what the car is capable of doing or if it really was what they say it was...They are trying to sell mufflers and give you a idea of what it will sound like... My car sounds much quicker on the response than that one did by far... Just giving them the benefit of the doubt... Peace brother:smile:

Pretty sure it's been tested and proven that most high flow mufflers out perform open pipes. You'd see the same thing if you stuck on some Dynomax Ultraflo's or something similar. I don't "hate" Flowmasters, I just don't care for the sound on most Mopars for some reason. Put them on a 90's fox body Mustang and yeah, I still like that sound to this day. I know I know it's a Ford. So what! I'm a Mopar nut but I don't discriminate the other guys (unless the owner of the car is a know-it-all prick).

I really appreciate that video. My main want is idle and cruise sound. I am tired of hearing nothing but able to light them up on demand rolling in traffic (pipes out the back). I want Super 44 or better sound but the Super 10 idle. I hear good things about the Hooker Aerochambers as well. Does anybody know where they would line up....on par with the Super 44's? I hear good things about Delta Ultraflows and Magnaflows but I really want to make sure they have a good aggressive idle as well as cruise and WOT. I want to make sure the idle isn't mellow. My stereo doesn't work :burnout:
