Need some advice on slicks for my '67 Notch

I have never ran slicks before so I'm a newb in that area. Wanting to take my car to the track a couple of times this Summer with some other friends.

I have a spare set of rally rims now and thinking I would buy another pair of 15 x 8 for the rear, to be left setup with a set of slicks so I can just swap out all four rims & tires when I want to bring it to the track. I would be trailering the car there.

Couple of questions:

1. What's the biggest size I can fit on these 15 x 8 rims under my stock body 67 notch without any mods?

2. Tubes or tubeless slicks?

3. Any guesses on what kind of ETs I might expect, 1/8th and 1/4 mile?

4. Considering a set of used slicks for this year, might only get out there once, maybe twice. Things I should beware of?

My setup:
340
10.5:1
J heads with 2.02 intake valves
508/292 comp cams
Holley 750 dp on M1 intake
727 reverse manual valve body with 4000 stall converter
4.56 gears
MSD with 3000/7000 two-step rev chips

I did a couple of searches but didn't have much concrete luck.
Any help is much-appreciated!

You didn't say what the back spacing is on your wheels. I will hazard a guess that with no mods to rear suspension you can get a 28x10x15 slick under the car with a 15x8 rim with 4 1/2 inch back spacing.

Others may have more information.



Your set up should be mid to low 12's.
 
I have 26x9 on my 73 swinger. I am sure the wheel wells are different though. Also I don't know if tubes will work with those rims. I tried to put tubes on my cragers and the valve stems wouldn't work with the rims..
 
#3 ... 8.0's/12's for limited outings would thrill me.

#4 ... As long as your keeping the car for a while.....Just by new tires. I've done used before, just not worth the time & $$$.

As far as the size Doug, I defer to current Cuda owners that can give you some serious numbers.

275 60/15" street radial on 10" wide/ back space 5". Leaves 3/8" to the leafs. you can add a 5/16"spacer. If you try slicks on a 8"/ 4.5" BS then I use a 7/16" Mr.G spacer. The 29" slick will rub the front, so 28", 9" or 10.5, 10"wide slick. depending on the rim. I did not like 275's on the 8" rim, due too a flabby side wall fitment.
 
I have a 15x8 4.5bs Hoosier 10.5x28 and they are too wide (lip) and they just hit the leaf spring with the 12.1 section width of the tire. I would say 9x28 w/11.1 section width would be safe and optimal.

Thanks! That is what I was Looking for. I believe those 15 x 8 rims have 4 3/4 back spacing. I have a set of 5/16 spacers as well, if needed.

all things being equal, w/o spacers it should give you a +/- 1/4 inch to the spring. I am not using tubes.

Slicks cause the car to waddle, so I used the 7/16 spacer, they touched with the 5/16" spacer, but I was running a spool which causes the waddle on turns. You will need 5/8" min. space to the leaf with slicks using a posi. and more (3/4" to be really safe) with a spool, if using a 10"slick on 8" 4.5BS. wide rim.The test is when you see the marks on the inside of the slick, you go to a thicker spacer.
 
I would ask that instead of the largest I would ask what are the smallest that you can put on and it work properly. I would look at a 26 or 28X8 on an 8" wheel. What size tires are on the car now? If the car has a 26" tire onit I would stick with it. Plenty of cars going fast on small tires.. My old race car i ran on 6" slicks and would run 7.20 in the 1/8th.

Hey thanks!
Right now I am running 26 inch tires. They are 295/60/15 to be exact. They hook pretty good but I can still roast 'em easily on the street anyways...
I plan to run an 8 inch rally rim from Wheel Vintiques at the track.
 
Don't forget the drive shaft loop to keep it legal (and safe) at the track.

What 295 60 15 tires you running ? 295 60 15 should be 28.9" tall . A drag radial that size should give decent traction once warmed up .
