74 dodge dart swinger 2 dr. 440 swap in the works, but I'm at a point where I can't make up my mind. I can't decide whether to have the dual exhaust exit at the sides, in front of the rear tires, kind of AAR cuda style, or go up over the axle and dump straight out under the rear bumper. Opinions?

I had them exit out the sides and bubbled the paint, now they are dumped just before the rear end. I use to have them over the rear end and exit out the back but did a spring relocation and now no room.

I voted side exit from a economic and weight perspective.
But I like open headers on my drag cars

Over the axle and dump out the sides right behind the rear tires.(With no more than an inch of the pipe showing below the bottom of the quarter)

Side exit at about a 45 ange with matching tip cut. Axle dumps are loud inside and make a mess of your rear valance. Bumper exits with a matching 45 cut looks nice too. Straight round pipes 2 inches past bumper looks bolt on. Fart can tips look tacky on anything. Jmho..

I like my dumps. They point at the rear tire from in front of the axle. Do not point in front of the tire incase something lets loose inside the motor.

You forgot one option!

I am not crazy about either one. I always liked dumping the tail pipes behind the tires under the quarters at an angle.

What i would do is put dual pipes, connected by an x in the middle, out the rear, with the machine gun tips from a roadrunner. Thats what i plan on doing with my swingers exhaust

I plan to have them come out the back with the signature Mopar 'hump' at the exit.

If you drive the car a lot the noise level will get old with it closer.Thats why i say out the back

I said out the back because side exit exhaust gets really loud if you ever do drive thrus or try to talk to people you are parked next to.

rather have out the backs, but no room w/ 3/4" offset springs and 3 1/2" tailpipes. dumped right in front of the rear axle.

fuelcell will take care of that problem:thumleft:

my vote is out the back.

Did mine just in front of the axle. Sounds good and not too loud inside the car. Kind of like the way they sound when they go out at the back bumper, obviously louder to those behind you at the stop lights and such.

:eek:ops: thot about that fuel cell, but I had already put a new tank in w/ dual pick ups out the back of it, thus ending my tailpipe dreams. remains to be seen how loud it`s going to be. put two 3.5" bullet roundy round mufflers -w/ a 3.5 spiral core tack welded 1/2 in and 1/2 out of each one. dunno, hope it`s not deafening----bob

I like mine out the back.

2 &1/2 in pipe up over the axel with springs moved into frame rails

took the exhaust shop awhile to get it done , looks like a work of art.

Absolutely no rattles, Ralph's Mufflers Indianapolis

thay`s a kick-as$ lookin dart!

My favorite is over the axle and out just past the bumper. The one year only exhaust for the 67 GTX is what I used as a model for my 68 w/440. 2" TTI's with the 3" TTI H pipe kit/mufflers and Accurate's 67 GTX tips.

The model:

On my clone-vertible:

TTI 3" square tip Dodge tip and Accurate 3" 67 GTX tip

out the back and dump at the bumper. I have a 440 with 3-1/2" and H-pipe that way on mine with Hooker Aero Chamber mufflers
