Just thought it was time to come clean with this... I'm a Mustang guy also. Don't get me wrong. I still love Mopars, but I've been into Mustangs much longer. Here's my story..

When I was 16 (1977) I worked for an awesome mechanic, welder, fabricator, electronics wizard, and a total guru of all things car related. His business was a one man show, taking on jobs like rebuilding massive Allison transmissions, log trucks, yarders, cat engines and tranny's. You name it; he could repair anything and he had a great reputation. He was a real genius.

When he was 18, he ordered and purchased a brand new 1965 Mustang fastback, then enlisted in the navy for four years. After he got out, he eventually moved to my area, where I eventually got to meet this man. I was only 16, but I had taken auto shop and welding in my vocational high school. I remember driving around with him in his 'Stang. I went to work for him, and we became very good friends, but as a teen, my interests were side tracked, and I took on other work. Our families remained friends for years.

Years go by... Like 30 years. I found out he had listed for sale his house and shop, the very place where I worked for him as a teen. The house and shop were very run down. Blackberry bramble covered the entire 4 acres. But I could remember what the place used to look like. I found out there were 3 offers on the property. So I made an offer for $10k above his asking price; but... included in the property was his car, the 65 fastback. It had been wrecked in the front end, he had hit a cow that was in the middle of the highway. It's been sitting in this shop since 1978!

During the last 6 years I have been remodeling the house; all new plumbing, wiring, heating, insulation, roof, windows, etc, etc. but now I am ready to start considering the restoration of this "one owner" low mile collector car! Purdy cool, eh? I used to run around in this car when it was only 12 years old!

Very cool! So glad you got the property and have made great strides getting the house done, as that's really what's important :thumleft:.

I love that you're gonna save that car from your past. I don't know anyone that doesn't respect a early FB Mustang. She looks really clean, and with the parts available these days, it should be a fun & fairly easy build.

Enjoy!

I like the Mustangs everybody makes fun of. The 71-73. I also like the Mustang II. I like all older American cars. Mopar just happens to be my favorite even though I cannot afford them. I caint afford nuthin right now. lol

Since the car came to you with the property, just make sure you can title/take ownership of it before you spend some $$$ on it.

Sorry I had to! Haha. I've owned a 1989 Mustang GT and it was a fun little car, I've got nothing against mustangs... They stayed true with the V8 RWD platform thru all the years. I wouldn't mind a 68 fastback one day. Neat story!

Yeah at least Ford didn't take a 26 year hiatus from making RWD V8 cars like Mopar did. THAT was gay.

Fast back mustangs are right up there with mopars in my book

I agree. I like these too. I think it's un-American not to like all American muscle cars.

Don't let the door hit ya on the way out!

Just messin....I like cars in general, don't matter the brand.

Lol, thanks for the replies guys. BTW, if ya look closely at the picture I posted, you can see the cab of the '65 Dodge welding truck that I also used to work out of when I was a teenager. I'm looking forward to getting it back on the road too!

The Mustang has incredible, rust free everything. The floors, rocker panels, fenders, all just like you would expect from a low mile, late model car. The doors shut with a solid, firm latch. The dash is perfect too. It really is an amazing car. The engine (289, numbers match) and tranny are out of the car, but I'm going to be taking it to a frame specialist one of these days soon to get her pulled back into shape. Dang cow did a lot of damage at 50 mph. :violent1: everything ahead of the windshield is pretty messed up.

Great story. Thanks.
I have as much loyalty to car manufacturers as they have to me.

Great story!! I for one love mustangs! And would love to own any fastback from 65-70, especially a 68!!

Good story

Let's see the front end of the mustang to see how bad it is damaged.

Buy a house get a car, what a concept!

I've had 3 mustangs, 71 Mach1, 92 LX convertible and my 2007 convertible daily driver

Nice story and a great link to some good memories. Can't ask for much more than that.

"Coming out... I like Mustangs"

So do I, it's OK, most people here are adult enough to handle it. ;)

"I have as much loyalty to car manufacturers as they have to me".

Bingo!

I like Stangs as well. And in addition, a lot of other brands. I'm a car guy through and through. American V8 stomping power is what I dig. Of all the Stangs I would own, it would be a 67-68 and/or a 70 era styled Stang. Hard top or convertae. I so do really like the Pinto sizes units. V8 only please.

Nothing wrong with other brands of muscle cars. If I hit the lottery, there would be a few of other brand cars in my stable

I like Mustangs too.... My wife and I own an "89" convertible and an "11" Shelby GT500. I like driving them both.

Great story. Thanks.

That right there says a lot, LOL

I just read a fairly disturbing report, which suggests that "new car sales" are again on the rise, and that in spite of the GM recall debacle, former owners "if anything" are more "loyal" as to buying new GM than before.

Me? I'll probably never buy a new car. If I do, it won't be another GM.

But the hand - ringing on this board lately DOES disturb. I have a Dart because I'm a fan of the older Mopars. I'm not Jay Leno, so I can not own a whole selection of cars. I had to choose. I'm not going to second guess myself. This is starting to remind me of one of the photography boards that I no longer hang out on, partially because of the snobs on there

They routinely "trade off" their Nikon / Canon gear to try and keep up with the latest trend

The point? I like lots of cars. I like 65 Chevelles. I like the old shoebox Chevies and Novas. Who would NOT want an AC? or a Tiger?

The thing is, this is a Mopar "A" forum. That is what it is.

I like mustangs too. Me and my cousin just dropped a warmed over 460 into an 89 foxbody, it hauls!

I too have always had a soft spot for Mustangs. This is a pic of my very first car. I worked my *** off.... scrimped and saved every penny and boy was I proud when I first hit the road in my very own car!
