I am thinking about installing ceiling fans in my two car garage. The current electrical boxes will not support a fans. So I need to replace with a ceiling fan rated box and brace.

I am a little concerned about have a ceiling fans hanging above my two cars...anybody install fans in their garage?

What did you use to brace your fan(s)? Any concerns of them falling?

Home Depot, Lowes, etc. sells brackets to brace your fan in the ceiling without disturbing your existing drywall.

Ceiling fans help a bunch IMO.....:thumleft:

Yes, there is a Westinghouse, Raco, and Steel City bracket kit that screw teeth from the end of the brace into the ceiling joist to hang the electric box from. I am looking for someone that has used one of these braces and see if they are dependable.

I saw something that I liked at a lodge. There were several ceiling fans above the dance floor. These fans had shrouds covering them. My guess is because the ceiling was low and some dancers might raise theirs hands,
My first thought.. It wouldn't take much to make that look like a wheel and tire. A hub cap, some white letter maybe.

I used 2 of those brackets putting fans on my porch. Outside in West Texas wind, not a bit of trouble out of them in 10+ years. I'd trust them to hang over my car.

do NOT put a fan above anything you want to stay clean. I.E. the blades will hold dirt then drop it on what ever is under it.

We tether everything with small gage steel cable ........ just in case

If you have access to the attic, I would just cut a block (2x4) and attach it between the joists and screw a ceiling box to that. Strong and cheap.

yes the fan itself should be tethered to something other than the box it is mounted to. Also I would use blue loctite on any screws holding the fan blades.

Screw the box or bucket that the fan bracket mounts to into some wood that's secure. Should be two screws that will thread into the box or bucket, looks like a electrical socket box almost. Then fallow directions. I've lost count of how many I have installed. I do it at least once a week for my job, never once have I had one fall. The loctite on the blade screws is a bit over kill in my opinion. You will notice a bad wobble if a screw works itself loose. We have fans at our property that have been there for 25 years without a problem.

I lay with me head directly beneath the spinning machines of terror every night and sleep like a baby! FALLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!

I didn't have the headroom in my garage for a ceiling fan. I have a 7' tall ceiling that is open to the 'attic' above, my trusses are 4' apart. I ended up buying a box fan and attached it to the joist so it is blowing down. In the winter it made a HUGE difference while working in the garage. It hasn't been hot enough this summer to really need it, but the airflow it provides it pretty nice.

I remodeled my house and removed the 3x3 attic fan when I did. I built a box for it then used hail screen to cover it front and back. That thing moved tons of air in the summer

This would be cool...
