Many years ago I went to an exhaust shop to have a dual system put on my 1971 Scamp. It had been a single exhaust originally, so it never had the passenger side bracket that mounts to the floor pan like the one in the attached photo. Last year I started to clean up the chassis & removed the exhaust system that had rusted out.

I'm getting close to installing a new system now, but one of the problems is that the shop that did the 1st dual system welded a generic hanger to the reinforcing plate for the rear seat belts. It worked, but it looked like crap & rusted away. I have a new pair of the stock type hanger brackets from Accurate Exhaust but need to know if the passenger side one is mounted in the exact same location as the driver side, but just as a mirror image?

Does anyone have a photo of these brackets mounted on the underside of an A-Body?

Is there possibly a diagram that shows the passenger side bracket?

I ground the old, rusty, generic one off the seat belt reinforcement plate & need to drill 4 holes to bolt the new bracket in place. I want to be sure that it's not supposed to be in some odd location for an offset so the muffler & pipes on that side clear everything when mounted.

Any info would be a big help, so thanks.

Glad you are getting it all back together.

I bet you Tom Swope from Accurate has the answer and some dimensions as well. Might email him or he will likely pop on here and provide some info.

Good luck with your fun project. :)

Tom

The floorpan is dimpled in the location for the passenger side bracket! They were not drilled unless the car was dual exhaust equipped, but they are there! Ill see if I can get a pic for you when it's light out! Geof

It'll ne nice to drive it again, but I'm just glad I'm motivated enough to work on it after all this time. Been doing projects on the house for so long I forgot I had the Scamp. :iconbigg:

I'll have to look from the interior side of the car because there is still a heavy coat of the factory undercoating where the bracket will go. It'll be easy since the interior is already out, I just hope I can see the dimples you mentioned.

Thanks.

I finally had a chance to hunt for the dimples in the floor pan & found what appears to be 3 of them in the area where the bracket would go. Unfortunately they don't line up with any of the holes on the bracket itself, so I am hunting for a photo of the underside of an A-Body showing the bracket. If I don't find any photos I may just wait until I go to Carlisle next week & ask someone with an A-Body that has a dual exhaust system to let me crawl under the car & take a look.

My son has a 71 Valiant, I'll go look and see if I can find what you are looking for....

Is that what you were looking for?

Do you need any other angles?

That's the correct area / location I need, but unfortunately I am looking for a photo that shows the stock type brackets.

I found some B-Body brackets mounted, but they are in a different spot. I know I can just mount it where it's close but I'm afraid that when it comes time to hang the exhaust I could have clearance issues. The gas tank is further towards the passenger side & the tail pipe will run along the side of it.

Thanks for the pics though, I appreciate it. :thumleft:

B-Body bracket photos I found.....

As far as I know, those are the original ones on my son's car. (the undercoating on them matches the floorboard)

If you need something different, that's ok. I was just trying to help...

The easiest way to install the floor pan bracket so that it is in the proper position is this way.
Install the complete exhaust system first making sure the RS muffler hanger is slid onto the back of the muffler. A jack stand under the muffler can be used to support the right side exhaust until the floor pan bracket and hanger are installed. The last part to be installed is the passenger side floor pan bracket. Install the muffler hanger loosely to the floor pan bracket.
If the elevation and clearance looks good then hold the floor pan bracket (with the muffler hanger installed to the fp bracket) up to the body. Simply drill the holes for the floor pan bracket , bolt it in and you are done. No guess work involved. Hope this helps.

I did it like Tom said. Not quite on the factory dimple but very close:

Sounds like a good idea, thanks. :thumleft:

Although I'm not even close to putting the exhaust in & don't have the system yet. I've got the rear axle housing out along with the springs, & cleaning things up underneath the car. I thought I'd mount the floor pan bracket while I had plenty of room to work.

I am surprised at where the passenger side bracket ended up, over the reinforcement plate. The dimples I found on mine were off to the right of that plate making it lower than yours.

I'm not going to be able to work on the car until some time next week since I'll be at Carlisle, but maybe I can talk my wife & daughter into mounting it while I'm gone. :D

Here's a picture of the factory floor pan bracket on the passenger side of my 1970 Duster 340. I'm sorry that the contrast isn't very good.

what you needed was a 2 piece system. a plate welded from the inside with studs and the exterior bracket screwed to it

Thanks....... :burnout:

It's been a while since I logged in because I've been repairing my house & haven't had time for the car. :sad9:

That photo shows the bracket very close to where I already mounted mine but I didn't have a backing plate. I didn't use the sheet metal screws the bracket came with & use a set of nuts & bolts with washers. It would be nice if the new bracket came with the plate but I think it will be okay.
