Ok, I am looking to build a engine for a Plymouth duster. ( I have neither the duster nor have I invested any money at this moment). Ok so the only thing for sure I know I want about this project, is what ever engine is built will be going in a Plymouth duster. Ok so here is the dilemma I am debating between a supercharged 408 stroker... Or a 440 stroked out to 600.... Or a standard 440 with some form of forced induction running a million pounds of boost (not really). Either way my goal is to have a bad a** car, that I only take out on Sundays, get better than 2 gallons per mile. The only limiting factor is it will have to run on good ol pump gas. What do u think?

Depends on your budget and what you like more...big block or small block?

Budget is not a concern. Idk I just want something fun. But I was leaning more towards a 408. Do u guys see any problems with a 408 supercharged

If budget is no concern call Steve Morrison and tell him you have an unlimited budget and want the best engine he can make you that will run on pump gas. Then it wont matter if it is a small block, big block, or modern hemi.

A 550hp 500 cuin big block would be very mild mannered for street driving.

Excellent choice! I've done a few 318 strokers with Prochargers sc-1, water injection and pump gas...mild combo's are 650HP and more cylinder head and cam will make 730HP while staying streetable.
I like the 650HP version as it's easier on the stock block over time...

The reason I say budget is not a concern is I will get a good recipe for a engine and slowly obtain the parts.

Is there a benefit of prochargers (are these the ones sit in front of the engine)? I kind of like the way the cenerfugal supercharger.

Do u think alunium heads will work well, or should I go with "j"?

A sure-fire way to never have anything is "no budget" stated, no timeframe, no car in hand, and no real plan. I'd say make some real choices. 550hp is nothing to reach with forced induction. It's not much to make even naturally aspirated. But you need to provide some direction.

A 408 on pump gas will need some deep dish pistons to keep CR low. W/M injection will help bump octane under boost.

Muscle Motors has done a 408 with a procharger and went 1500 hp on race gas and over 800 on pump gas. Don't be someones gunie pig. Don't know if MRL has got into many boosted motors yet..

I want to obtain majority of the parts before I purchase because if I buy the car now its going to just sit any way, at least this way I have garage space. I was also leaning towards a 408 because I have a extra 360 in my garage... But I found some one who wanted to trade for a 440 so either way I am ok.

My plan is find the motor I want. Get what ever block I choose tested and cleaned. Acquire the engine parts, drive line and rear end (already have tranny), then buy car. Get it blasted and painted

Id go 408 on 2 turbos and EFI. Fun, cheaper than a SC and better mileage. Also less shock on the driveline than a SC BB. Weight will be a tad less but more room in the bay for the turbos. turbo could use iron heads too, just port them out, flow is not paramount in a blown app. Money saved on heads could be used elsewhere. Start with a plan and stick to it, golden rule.

I'd go with a stroked 400 to 451-470 big enough to make the you require but still maintains great bore to stroke and rod ratios.
