Rallies all the way , down the road if it was me i would look for a set of light argent centers or do the centers on the car over .But that is just me .But very very nice car outside an interior is beautiful. Great job .

Thanks much. I am on the fence right now concerning the rallies. I like them and do prefer the darker centercap but hey regardless I am having fun with the car and that is what matters..

So been a long time since my last post on the Dart. There have been a lot of things going on in my life lately nothing bad just a lot of great things that have been taking all my time to visit FABO and post anything.

My wife and I now have a wonderful little boy he is 2 1/2 years and is now the sole focus in my life. Was a tremendous process and well worth the wait. He is a lot of work but trying to keep up with him.

That all being said I have been having some trouble trying to figure out a vibration and also alignment problems not to mention a coolant leak that I haven't been able to locate until the other day. I am posting about the coolant leak and then going to pose a question about the vibration (knowing if you can't drive it almost impossible to diagnose).

So the car was leaking only when running at speed and spraying coolant all over the engine compartment. The car wasn't over heating and the leak didn't present itself anywhere. There was no water on the motor other than spray from the fan and everything seemed to be in order. I replaced the water pump because I saw some coolant in the pulley. This had no affect what so ever. Then with out really looking for it I saw some coolant leaking out of the overflow tube. Thinking that is strange because the car isn't over heating and the temp is always around 180 and climbs a bit during highway driving. Well after a lot of research the problem finally revealed itself. The radiator cap was vented!!!! I hadn't noticed this, but when you have a vented cap it vents to atmosphere on an open system like our mopars. Probably elementary for most if not all of you but I didn't realize it. I replaced the radiator cap with a non vented and low and behold no more leak. The only reason I am posting this is if there is someone out there that is having a similar problem with coolant leaking out of the overflow tube without overheating the problem could be more simple than you think. Not saying it is always the case but if all else fails.

Ok now for the long winded version of the vibration question. I hope someone out there is still reading on this horrible rant I have going on.

First let me say that I initially thought that my frame was tweaked. I couldn't get the bumper to sit straight no matter what I did. Adjusted everything and couldn't do it. So my first thought was bent frame and bad alignment because of said bent frame was causing the vibration. Well the good news is no bent frame put it on a frame machine and it is within factory spec all around. The guy who had it on the machine was amazed because of it being a unit body and having been hit early in it's life. He did a complete alignment including adjusting bushing preload and all now the car drives straight and true but over 65mph shakes like it wasn't to eat itself. It doesn't do it anywhere else accept above 65. I push in the clutch and nothing smooths out. When you slow to below that magic number it smooths out.

I have checked everything I can think of. I replaced the drive shaft to another that I had and the vibration is in the exact same range. I would think that if the drive shaft were out of balance that the vibration would have changed. I have moved the wheels around to see if the vibration moves to one side of the car or the other front back or side to side with no luck. This is not a vibration in the steering wheel it can be felt through the frame and in the seat of your pants. Actually a bit of an uneasy feeling to be honest. the hood and the fenders rattle around and almost feels like death wobble. I have had people drive in another car and other than the hood and fenders rattling around the tires don't seem to be jumping around. The question is could a bad axle bearing cause something like this or even a rear end on its way out?

Sorry about the description. Just wondering probably a million reasons why something like this could happen. If anyone has any suggestions for diagnosis that would be greatly appreciated. I haven't had much success searching through the forum for answers to this I hope that I am not duplicating anything else already answered.

Thanks in advance

Beautiful car!

I wonder if it would vibrate at that speed on a chassis dyno? If so I think that would narrow it down to the rear axle? You should start a new thread on this specific problem in the Transmission and Drivetrain Tech section of this forum you will get a lot more suggestions there....

What rpm is the car turning when it vibrates at 65 mph? Can you bring it to That rpm in neutral and see if it still does it? If it does, it's probably in the engine/trans. If you jack it up in the back, and bring it up to that speed, and it still vibrates, it's probably not the front suspension.
