Opinions on what this car is worth

-
I don't know where some of you live but apparently prices swing greatly or some of you are the cheapest ****'s ever! Lol. Some of you are still paying 1990's prices. Where I am from a parts car is 1500-2000. I'd say around here that car would worth 4-5000, IF it is actually rust free and straight.

What is your goal? A daily driver? Total restoration? I ask because you can buy it cheaper restored than you can restore it. Just food for thought. Bought my barracuda for 5k, have another 25 invested doing all the work in house except paint and machining. But it is exactly what I wanted.

Yes, it all depends on your location, 100% agreed.
Where i live, people are asking a lot for their cars, but i doubt that's what they're actually selling them for.
For example, there was a '75 slant 6 auto Dart Sport for sale on kijiji locally. The car was running and driving, but needed some TLC and minor rust repair. The asking price was $4000.00 6 months ago. It then was dropped to $2500.00 3 months ago. It ended up selling for $900.00 about a month ago. That was a pretty good deal, but it's all the car was worth being a '75 and a slant 6 car to boot.
It is better to buy one restored, in the long run it will save you money. (As long as you are choosy and know exactly what you are looking at)
But another argument for the fix it up yourself crowd is that if you take on a project and do it yourself, you know what you got, and you can do it your way. (Like your car which is awesome BTW)
As a matter of fact, i am a cheap **** as you put it, aren't we all though? lol
Just my 2 cents FWIW.
Tom.

Thank you for the compliment, dartnut. I consider myself a tight *** too, but I have come to the conclusion that everybody else I know seems to stumble into incredible deals and pay way less that value. I usually end up getting bit in the *** when I try to save a few bucks. Lol.

but its a 74 duster not a 70 duster. big difference.

i see the line you are talking about it it looks a lot like a shadow but it also looks like spray paint that doesn't match the hood.. hard to tell not standing next to it though.

It's still a /6 car. I know the 70/71 cars are worth more since I have a couple of '71 Darts, but I still don't think that '70 is worth much more than $3,500. I paid less for my '71 EL5 GT with a 318 in 2008 than I did for my Duster.

As far as 1990's pricing, I bought my '74 in 2012 for that $2k.

I thought that line on the fenders might be a shadow too, but it stays in the same place even when the angle of the pictures change. Looks like a repaint with a blend that doesn't match perfect. But you'd definitely have to see it in person to know what's going on there.

With a nice interior, it may well be a $7k car, so deduct the cost to redo that and some of the other work it needs, and I see a $4500 car as it sits!! Geof

Thanks for all the opinions ,

Original add says they are looking for a 4X4 to trade so I,m gonna drive the chevy down to see it next week.

If all else fails and I like the car I can dip into my slush fund , but can't see paying more than 4k for it and it will be my 5th car

I'm going to add my two cents. People like to say early model dusters are worth more. Not to me! The Plymouth duster front suspension was revised in 1973 and became better. They came with electronic ignition, which is much better than points, and factory front Disc brakes. A 74 slant6 is way better than a 70. To me.

all that crap can be put onto a 70 easily. plus the 70 motor is better. not all pollution controlled up like a 74. and you don't have those stinking 5mph bumpers on the 70. its cool you prefer the 74. but the majority would take a 70 over the 73-up. just the way it is man..

It looks like a great starting point for a resto. I wouldn't want to pay any more than 3-4k for it. Resto parts aint cheap these days, and it looks like it needs alot of TLC!

Well after months they finally lowered the price and bought it for $4000.

The body is nice with only one rust hole , a small one on the LR quarter way smaller than a dime.

Looks to have been rusted from a rock chip that knocked the paint off 30+ years ago.

You can see the build sheet tucked in the seat back from inside the trunk.

Gotta swap the fuel tank out for a better one I have and it will be driveable , right now it is running from a plastic jug , but the engine sounds good.

Pictures later on today

That's good, nice persistence. I want to see some pics since the original ad is long dead link.
I do agree 70s are worth the most in Dusterland but it's not as big of a deal as other mopars. The Duster was hardly even facelifted in its production run. Here is a fixable $650 one

At the other end of years here is a 76 with no pictures but the 4 speed setup alone may be worth a large part of the asking price. http://helena.craigslist.org/cto/4649591800.html

Dude that's a nice score. Great solid, straight car, and it's a 70!! I don't know what your plans for it are, but if it's gonna get mini tubbed like your Dart, I'm looking forward to seeing the build.

I see a full tub and 512ci big block in it's future

Took some brute force but finally go the front seat to move all the way back.

Broken cable and stuck in the same spot for years

Took the title to the license branch today. But scanned it first

When I bought the car it was running from a jug of gas under the hood.

The guy told me the tank needed cleaned and unclogged.

Pulled the tank today and found this beauty.

So I just the replaced the tank with the stock one I took out of my dart

The gas in the tank reminded me of the varnish in wood shop in H.S.
