Left For Dead In A Ditch: The Newfoundland Ravine Daytona

http://bangshift.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/IMG_0085.jpg The photos look like a crime scene. The remnants of a T5 Copper 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona lay scattered, crushed, picked apart by parts looters among the trees and brush of a ravine in Newfoundland, Canada. The body panels that are left are almost unrecognizable. The roof is absolutely collapsed. There is no evidence of a wing or the nose cone. Effectively, there is nothing left to this car but the VIN tags, enough pieces for garage art and maybe enough metal for a toaster. Yet, there is someone who is going to attempt to restore this car.

According to the owner of the paperwork of this Daytona, it had been parked in a gravel pit sometime in the mid-1970s after it’s 440 sent a rod through the block in 1973. The town was building a dam to contain floodwaters that had been an issue for quite some time, and when the bulldozers came in to do the job, they shoved the Daytona into the ravine.

Now, here’s the kicker: It’s going to be restored, one way or another. A couple of years ago this car was purchased and the owner started collecting pieces necessary to get this Daytona back on the road. Among purchases: Wing, nose, Daytona hood, rear window plug and most of a ’68 Charger that had been used as a parts donor that was in considerably better shape. Even more interestingly, Graveyard Carz is eyeing the project as a potential build for their show.

Even with as much love as we have for the Winged Warriors, this Daytona is too far gone for our tastes. The investment will be unbelievably huge and time-consuming. But, if the car somehow rolls again, the story behind it will be nothing short of amazing.

there is no way to restore that without a re-body. They should just let it die. If the owner really cared about it then why didn't he have a wrecker come get it out of the ravine hours after it first happened.

Can you recover the tags?? that is the main question!

I think there are 3 sets..Driver's trunk drip rail, radiator support and Dash Vin..

I think that is all.. Does anybody know different?

I would like to see how they pull off the rear window plug ......you have to kill a charger 500 or another Daytona for one of those. Any car that you could cut it off of would probably be in better shape than this anyway.

Yea, Saw Graveyard carz post images of this on FB...... If it's got the vin tags, I'd say, have a stab at it......IF the owner has the coin. Not much will be used for sure, but it should be one hell of a story!

As long as the VIN tags exist, anything is possible. Happens with valuable cars all the time. Look how many old Ferrari and many other old race cars were crashed and burned beyond recognition, rolled into balls, or whatever. As long as the VIN tag existed the car can be re-built as good as new, even if the only original part is the VIN tag.

Incorrect story....

Turns out the real story behind this car is that one day.....

Chuck Norris looked at it.....

yea, I heard Chuck Norris drove it on Talladega and he ended up ditching the car and won the race by running and he won by 5 laps. :jocolor:

x2 at what point does a car become a "clone"? when you have replaced more than is there to start with? IMHO You cant just build a "new" or "replacement" car around vin plates and what not and call it a restored RARE vehicle.

That has been one of my problems with some of the high dollar restores that I see.

In the antique furniture world, there is a fixed allowable amount to be replaced. After that amount no longer considered an antique..

Unfortunately, it seems that as long as you have the vin tags, it is considered original...

Would it not be easier , and lot less expensive to go go buy one , and not even a Hemi car 440 at that . Justs nuts>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

It was a sharp looking car with that color combo when new!
