Anyone ever had this happen to them? Going about 40 MPH, I heard the sound of metal hitting concrete, so I pulled over to see if I lost an emblem or something. I didn't see anything at first, until I was walking around to get back in the car. The passenger front wheel is missing the very center of the center cap. I didn't even know these came off? I searched the area for a good 30 minutes with no luck.

never saw that before....All the sets I have had over the years and I never knew they came off there either

someone told me those are 72 only center caps ....that is not confirmed but I have a few of those. If they are one year only I can see why because that is ridiculous

Nope, 75 and later, the center pops/snaps in place.....think it had somethin to due with how the fullsize spare tire/rally's wheel mounted in the trunk so you wouldn't have to remove the whole center cap.

never thought about that, it makes sense.

I knew they were removable on some years , but never knew why

did the spare come with a centercap?

Yes, It had the chrome acorn cap but not the "snap-in" center. Also, the center cap is chrome in the center and not brushed like the older ones, BUT....the snap in circle does have a brushed surface.

I have lost an entire center cap before....but that is another story.

I have seen F-bodies with the non-removable center so it cant be simply a 75 and up thing.

There has to be more behind that.

Any documentation anywhere??
