8.25 rear end

-
I have an 8 3/4 axle.

My vent tube goes through the brake block into the axle..

They are the same as the 8 3/4. The vent IS the brake block retaining bolt.

Early 8.25's ('73-'74) have a vent pipe a little above the fill plug that runs along the top of the driver side axle tube to a little sheet metal cover that's spot welded to the tube. Later axles used the vented brake tee bolt.

Somewhere along the line that vent bolt got changed to a regular bolt (probably when the rear end got changed) and that caused no ventilation, so I just removed the bolt and zip tied the brake with it partly covering the hole and now there are no more leaks.

Missed seeing you this year... Debert next spring ?

That factory "screw" is center-drilled and then a special tin cap is crimped on. This prevents water and other airborn debris from getting into the diff. Dont forget that the diff is constantly breathing with changes in temperature. And you guys out on the coast there, get more than your fair share of snow/water/temp. swings. Just saying.
