What part of Colorado?

Oklacarcollecto, It's a good place to be.:blob:

Just don't let your children eat the gummy bears.

I actually thought Durango was a pretty cool place, but haven't been there in almost 15 years.

What are you looking for....big city amenities....small town living....country.....mountains. Colorado is pretty diverse. Cost of living is decent but wages aren't the best in some area's.

My Daughter lives in the Denver area and the rent is double to nearly triple there compared to what it is here. The wages is also higher but no where near double.

Yup,Denver is terrible on rent. I used to live in Greeley which is 50 miles away and the rent is more reasonable there but wages aren't the best. Many commute to Denver from Northern Colorado.

Colorado sucks unless you are independently wealthy or need to smoke weed

ive been here since 1976 because its a trap. the wages are just as bad as any where else. it does have some great places to see. if you are looking for work , be prepared to take a crap job or wait in line, hopefully you have employment already lined up or are in the service, they get first dibs on everything

I have lived here for 35 years its a great place with lots to do and see.
Yes the cost of living is somewhat higher depending on area you choose to live.
The cost of living is relative to wages . No I do not smoke pot and that is not the only attraction here contrary to what some people would believe.
There are plenty of jobs available but like anything depends on what your expectations are and what your skills are.
I make a great living here and have lived in many other placed but would not consider moving this is a beautiful state with a lot to offer.
Just like anything else in life its what you make of it.

I almost consider myself a native, lived in Colorado over 50 years. Grew up in Denver graduated inner city high school. Worked in Denver, the ski/ resort areas for 12 years, worked Colorado Springs area for almost 5 years, worked in the Arkansas Valley La Junta pronounced La Hunta about 50 east of Pueblo, Co. Spent the last 25 years in northern colorado working in Fort Collins and living in Windsor.

Like others have said, it's a very diverse state with lots to offer, except air so the cars don't run like when your at sea level.

Still today I travel all over the U.S. doing consulting work and get asked regularly what my favorite place is and I always comment that there is no place like home.

I would say figure out what you want to do and decide where to live based on that. I live in sterling colorado. It's a small town, very small, but I work at sterling correctional facility. Out in my neck of the woods, you either work at the prison, on the railroad, or on the oil rigs. Colorado department of corrections is always hiring, and they pay pretty well. The only requirements I know of are clean background, clean drug test, 21 years old. They start at around $3,300 a month. Out here, that's pretty good money. I am trying to get out on the oil rigs though, they work a lot harder but pay a lot better. Like I said though, figure out what career field is for you then decide where to settle down. Like others have said many areas of Colorado are very expensive to live in, but there are cheap towns like mine.

Right now housing in the Denver Metro area is expensive, and really not alot of homes on the market? Pueblo is inexpensive, with alot of homes on the market, but not too many jobs. I just read they are building a large solar power farm there, and I think they also make wind turbines. I guess they are looking to the "green" (power and weed) sector for job growth.

Like stated before Colorado is pretty diverse and a pretty large state, 8th largest. We have 3 climates, Eastern Plains, Mountains and the West Slope. Mountains get over 10' of snow. Denver has some of the most extreme weather in the country. Jan 1st could 60* or 20 below. More moderate here on the West Slope. I lived in Denver for 8 years and as far as big cities goes its one of the better ones. I spend enough time in a lot of the cities across the country and like the country life much better.
As far as jobs it just depends on what you do. I made a good living as an electrician for 25 years here.
If your the outdoors type you can't pick a better state.
We have our issues like any state.
I've lived all of my 54 years here and travel all over the country. I always love coming home and will probably die here.
I don't know why some say its a trap. If you don't like it here then move. Most people I know here love living here. You could in Jersey. I know a lot of people in Jersey. Good people but I don't think any of then like living there. I know I wouldn't.

You are you and in your situation. You have no idea what others may be experiencing.

This only counts for uneducated people thinking they can land the big dollar job with no experience or education. It isn't the norm here. I have lived in almost every city on the Denver side from Ft Collins down to Castle Rock and all in between. It really depends on what you want, suburbs, city, country? My favorite place was up near Loveland/Ft Collins area. Never enjoyed being near Denver but nearby Golden, Morrison and Boulder were nice. What type of work are you looking for? Bandemere Speedway is off c-470 in Morrison CO and highlands ranch area is pretty nice too.

Colorado does suck, and I'm a native as well. Have fun having a much slower car in our crappy air. But, welcome! :)

I was stationed in Denver many years ago, and it was my best assignment by far. Wonderful people, beautiful scenery, diverse weather. I was impressed enough to even write a novel that takes place there.

I love the state and if I was younger I'd seriously think about a move to the Fort Collins area, as Denver has gotten too big and lost its charm.

to each his own i guess.........
why u would live anywhere and think it sucks is beyond me, native or not...........and to the op (if your still reading this thread) colorado is a great place to live. as others have said lots to do and see here, and lots of different enviroments to live in, city or rural.

mountains are second to none, skiing, camping, fishing, hunting are all top notch, and major city living is like anywhere else.

it's beautiful here.

not to be an ***, but if i thought it sucked, or felt trapped anywhere, i would sell my double wide, all my cars and assets, and buy a one way bus ticket to tierra del fuego.....

i've done it before............not because i thought the place sucked, but for other personal reasons like drug addiction and financial problems.............left everything behind, including my family.........so i don't really buy into the "trapped" thing, sorry.

so maybe others could elaborate, so i could better understand the "why" as to why this place sucks............i personally don't think it's the state, rather the situation.......like every road here right now has orange cones on it....too much road construction....that sucks.........

so again to the op, when u make the move, pm me, i will try to help you out any way i can..........
