Co-owner surrenders in race track raid after $90,000 in unpaid taxes

CECIL, GA (WALB) -
A co-owner of a south Georgia race track has surrendered to authorities after the property was raided by state investigators who said they owed thousands in unpaid taxes.

Kimberly F. Wood, who owns the track with her husband Rowland, has been charged with theft by taking for sales and theft by taking withholding. She turned herself in to the Cook County Sheriff's Office around 2 p.m. Monday. Her husband has not been charged.

The state said the track owes at least $90,000 in unpaid taxes. Officials served a search warrant for the track's financial records Sunday afternoon.

The Cook County Sheriff's Office said deputies were sent to South Georgia Motorsports Park Monday morning.

The Georgia Department of Revenue is leading the investigation.

The track was closed Monday, but attorney Chris Cohilas said races scheduled for this weekend would still happen as scheduled.
