Good idea, i used dish soap on mine and they went on easier than non lubed.
Your idea seems better, no chance of them getting ripped.
I used dish soap as well...I don't think I could have done it without, even with the tapered shaft. Can't imagine how anybody installs the seals just by hand (with soap or not)
