Do you have any blue berry muffin mix at home?

The wife has been out of town so I am doing my own food shopping right now. I was rummaging through the cabinet and when I checked the ingredients to her muffin mix it has:

>> Propylene Glycol <<

If I remember right that's anti-freeze. The stuff that you don't leave lying around in order not to poison your pets or wondering animals. I guess it really does taste sweet. Next time that you are grocery shopping, check it out, they all have it. How bad is this for you in these volumes?- the wife loves to make muffins.

I wasn't expecting that. Low carbs, low fat, fat free, yadda yadda-but not
anti-freeze.

What else besides aspartame and nitrates should I be looking out for?
:evil3:

What I also thought at one time. Dr. Pepper is my favorite soda/pop whatever. That also has propylene glycol. Anti)freeze is POLYpropylene glycol.

Most anti freeze is ethylene glycol. But I wouldn't wanna eat propylene glycol either. Wanna really get skeered? Read the label on non stick spray. I just use real butter for that now.

If you think reading labels in the store is scary.....try taking a tour thru a hotdog plant.

margerine has propylene glycol in it too. when i showed this to my wife she started to buy the lightly salted real butter .

ingredients are sweet cream, and salt.

matt

Exactly. That's why I use Land O Lakes now.

And I love me some hot dogs too. Kitty just fixed us a fried Spam sammich for lunch today. Besides lips, buttholes and beaks, I don't wanna know what else is in it.

Chocolate covered cherries are another you might wanna read. lol

You oughtta see what it's like at a turkey or chicken processing plant! Especially the protein plant! I did the HVAC work for a simmons and a tyson plant. When a dog food bag says it has chicken in it, It;s not some little old lady wearing granny glasses dropping leg quarters into a pot!

Nabisco had a plant in the city. Got a call to replace some Stainless doors. They showed me the doors to the Ginger Snap room. It's been over thirty years. Since I ate a Ginger Snap Cookie.

Sierra antifreeze (the not-so-poisonous but can still be dangerous stuff) is propylene glycol based. yum yum.

We use propylene glycol in our heating systems at work.. Its Biodegradable so it must be good for you! Make those dang muffins and start passing them out.. Blueberry muffins are my favorite!

Amazing what a couple electrons can do, eh?

IIRC, hot dogs and peanut butter are allowed a certain percentage of-

A- insect parts and rodent droppings

B- "other"

WTF could be worse than insect parts and rodent droppings?

My uncle had a friend that was a USDA meat inspector.

You do NOT want to hear those stories.

I stopped buying cooking spray in can because of expense and the additives.
Now I use plain olive oil in a plastic spray bottle.
(Or what ever oil you want to use.)

I live on Drury Lane.

No muffin man here ! And most definitley no SPAM...

That left the diet as soon as I left my parents house many years ago. I will not allow it in my house! My father loves the crap.

Must be from the war years and our "Greatest Generation" !!

Easy solution, throw away the boxed muffin mixes, and open your Betty Crocker cook book and make it from scratch. It's not that difficult and really only takes a few minutes more than the boxed crap. Plus no mystery ingredients, and they will taste way better.

Just today I made a double batch of banana bread. Yummmm

Y'all expect me to swallow this tripe???
