Just went through some pictures and figured I would post up some shots of my engine going together.

Right now it's still on the stand, I need to get the engine compartment painted before I drop it back in.

What are you measuring with the dial indicator?

Looking good. I need to get planning my rebuild soon. I just hope I don't need to rebuild it soon

How do you measure it that way?

With a rod bolt stretch gauge. It's hard to see there but you can see it laying with the rods up above.

Basically I bolted each rod in the vise and tightened the bolts in stages until I got the stretch I was looking for (.005"). Then I wrote down that number (which was 55 ft-lbs for all of them). As I installed each rod I zeroed the stretch gauge, took it off, then torqued the bolts to the number I wrote down. I checked them with the gauge after and if they were not torqued enough I loosened them and tightened again to a slightly higher number.

Thanks. We love photos. Very meticulous work. I expect most commercial shops just slap things together with minimal measurements. Many are also fairly messy so who knows what winds up in your engine.

FINALLY got the motor installed. But not running yet (I'm moving and won't have time to work on it for at least a year.)

Thanks guys! Slants are an acquired taste. Most of the time I feel like Don Quixote flailing at windmills but it's lots of fun. You can make more power for cheaper with an LA engine but who really cares how fast you go?

Love those cranks, brawny! Slick carbs too

Dang, just noticed you are in LB, I'm all over LB daily. I should cruise by and offer some moral support. Just call in a VZ phone trouble ticket.....

Well I'm actually moving to NYC for work in 2 weeks. I'm staying with friends and my house is rented out.

The car is being loaded on a carrier on Tuesday for shipping.

When you get settled and winter boardem sets in,,fill us in on the products and part numbers of what you used. Many of us love slants but don't know where to start. Thanks in advance !!

I think you'll find those aircleaners are too short...heightwise that is....the air won't get in the carby's quite right.....seen it before....need to be 3".

The leaning tower of power is looking good.

Are you living in the city, or in the burbs?
Garage space in NYC is a premium.
