So now that I am getting time to drive my car a bit my eddy 1406 is acting up.
Today the floats stuck open so I had to pull the top off and clean it out. and it has the typical problem of not wanting to re fire on a hot start. Other than that it seems to work good.
Right now I have the thin gasket, a thin metal shim and another thin gasket between the carb and intake. Will the 9266 gasket cure the hot start problem ? Thinking of trying a holley out just don't wanna throw money away if there is a an easy fix.

I had one of those thick gaskets under my Thermoquad when I was running it and still had the heat soak issues.

You might try a 1" phenolic spacer if you have the hood clearance.

I went to a new carb and that helped a bunch, but I wanted a new carb anyway.

Before I went with EFI the best things I did on my 67 were

electric rear mount fuel pump and garbage can the mechanical

install a vapor return system with Wix fuel filter with return port, 33040 / 33041

and a nice thick insulator

The problem might be "more" Ed than Holley, but remember, thousands of AFBs were used for years and years on cars, before we had alcoholized fuel. I'm not just talking Mopars. AFBs were used on GM and Mopar

I have always used a spacer on my 1406 and never had a problem. I just put it on my Ramcharger with no spacer last week. We'll see how it goes. I love my Eddy carbs. I never have to adjust them ever. My Holley I'm adjusting every other week.

That thick Eselbrock gasket is the first thing you should grab. It stop my fuel percolation the instant input it on. Then make sure your carb is tuned well, not running lean or to rich. The engine temp should not be on the high side. Time and tune, time and tune.....

Your not running a drop base air cleaner are you? That would add to the heat issues. Blocking the heat cross over is also a good idea should the car not be used n the winter.

My new 1406 is a pile of crap sitting in a box in the attic. There is a new 670 Avenger sitting in its place.

Are you used to tuning Holley carbs over the AFB's?

I have a 1406 electric choke and and a ton of others here do also, and most of us have that stupid "heat soak" BS issue.
Also have the thick insulator, but didn't block the crossovers. (yet)

One thing I used to think was that the Eddie carb ran rich, missed and took a few minutes to clear up after a hot restart. (hot being anywhere over about 160)
After installing an A/F guage I found that when they do this it's because the A/F mix was about 2 full points lean.
My car normally runs and A/F mix of about 14.5 at idle which is a little lean, but after a hot start when it's running crappy the A/F ratio is in the 16 range for about a minute of running and then returns to the normal 14.5 or so and runs great again.
I guess the smell from the unburned fuel from the lean miss tricked me into thinking it was going rich when it did it.

If I was more concerned about speed I'd dump it for a Holley or similar, but the Edelbrock is so dang stable about adjustments I am going to live with it, but will block the crossovers next time the intake comes off.
I don't know how much good it'll do if the heatsoak causes problems as low as 160 though.
I'm going to talk to Edelbrock about it and see if there is some reasonable excuse that these carbs do this. (as you can tell I'm not expecting to find out anything real usefull)

Just put on the 9266 gasket. Seemed to idle like crap with just that change like it had a leak.
Anyways I added a thin gasket on the top and bottom of the thick gasket. Git the idle set.
I'm gonna go for a drive down the highway and will report back in a little while.

The motor in my truck (318) has a 1406 and blocked crossover and it is a cold-blooded SOB. Takes a good 6 miles of driving to stop the bogging and backfiring on quick throttle openings.
Runs great the rest of the time, including hot starts. But it does have a rather short fuel line since the tank is in the cab.

I have the eddy triangle air filter and never had any problems with heat. I like my eddy. The only thing I don't like is its not a spread bore like the thermoquads. Anyone have an extra tq laying around collecting dust for cheap?

I had an Edelbrock 1406 on my car for a while. Never ran right. Put a Holley on and never looked back. If you are determined to keep the Edelbrock carb, block off your heat crossover. You don't need it in CA. Any carb hates heat, but these Edelbrocks really hate heat. Boils the fuel off in no time.

I think the gasket fixed it. I ran it like normal down the highway and through town then shut it down for about 10 minutes ( about the time it usually floods itself ) did this a couple of times and all seems good no more boiled off gas. I was about to run this thing over with a forklift LOL

When you mean heat cross over I am pretty sure it is blocked or not even there in the performer manifold either that or the gaskets don't have the holes for it.

It's not flooding it's going real lean like I said in my above post about the air/fuel ratio guage.
It feels like a flood though don't it?
