My car has a direct drive fan on it now and i would like to put on a mopar viscous fan coupler.
I need to know the minimum recommended distance from the front of the water pump pulley to the back of the radiator to make sure it will fit . I have 3.5 inches now from radiator to front of water pump pulley.
Any help appreciated.

It's not so much of the coupler as it is the fan blades as they stick out further than the coupler. I'm sure some on here will know, but you need to include more info on the car, ie., core size, sb or bb, etc..

I do believe the blades should be around 5/8" from the Rad.

Check out Hayden part # 2765 fan clutch. At just under 2 3/4 inches thick with fan, it is about as thin as I've found.

I am looking for the room needed from the front of the water pump pulley to the back of the radiator that a viscous fan setup needs. I have had a few members pm me about units for sale
but before I commit I would like to know the space this thing takes up. I have a fixed dimension of 3.5 inches from the water pump pulley face to the back of the radiator. That cannot be changed. How much room is needed for the viscous or clutch fan setup to fit ??

I have a post some years ago (search) where I recall giving dimensions for the 273 in my 65 Dart. With the 1" thicker alum water pump, I couldn't fit a clutch fan. I recall having 2.5". I didn't try the Hayden 2765 that others now recommend. 3.5" should be plenty. If I ever revisit, I would try a clutch fan for my 84 M-B 300D since a much thinner fan (most Euro cars) and I recall the pilot holes are the same. I once bolted a 318 clutch fan to the M-B water pump and it bolted up fine (but blades too thick).

My clearance is approx. 3.5"

It's tight and can barely get a finger between the front of the clutch & radiator....

the original is about 3 1/8". The short shaft is 2 1/2" and is pricy whether it is original or the TRW replacement ( F28 i think)
The hayden (spec is for an '80's Jag) is about 2 3/4 and typically turns about 80% crank speed
