I have a 1973 Plymouth gold duster with a 198 slant six. I have recently completed a ground up restoration on our one owner car bought new. The car originally came without power steering or power brakes. So during the restoration process I added power brakes and power steering. Everything works great except for the brakes. The car's brakes seem to lock up frequently. For a while it was the rear brakes now this weekend the passenger side disk brake locked up after I started the car after setting for approximately one month. I have been keeping a eye on the master cylinder as for as brake fluid level and I noticed that one side had lost a little fluid. The car has new SS brake lines through out, silicone brake fluid. new proportional valve and new master cylinder.

Got any idea what the issue is? This is becoming frustrating.

Did you change the rubber brake hoses front and rear? They can look good on the outside but break down on the inside and cause the problem you are describing. Especially after 41 years...

Did the brake pedal get changed, when you added the new power setup? They have a different leverage ratio, I believe? Finding your leak should be the first thing to do because, the system ain't gonna work right, with a pressure loss anywhere.

Are the calipers new or used? The phenolic "plastic" caliper pistons that came in factory units seize up and should always be replaced.

At this point, find a local GOOD brake & chassis shop. Tell them the mods you did, have them do a basic brake inspection.Start there.

NEED INPUT! When the rear brakes were locking up was it both brakes or just one? Did you use all new parts when you rebuilt the rears, including emergency brake cables and wheel cylinders? Were the calipers new or did you use the ones that were on the car? What color were the pistons in the calipers, shiny or black? Which master cylinder/booster did you use, stock or aftermarket? Which side is losing fluid, front or back? Sounds like you may have more than one problem that is driving you :violent1:

A follow up on my front brake problem. I bleed the front brakes. seam to help but noticed that the majority of the time the brakes operated normal. but there was a tendency that when I turned to a different street I could start to feel a slight pressure
on the passengers side brake. When I pressed the petal the passengers side brake acted like it wanted to lock up.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
