Just got this 1967 convertible and have this very loud shrill noise on the left side. Definitely a wind noise as it gets extremely loud with increasing speed. Anybody else experienced anything like this? Not wheel bearing, alternator, belts etc as have checked all of these items. any suggestions?

I would start by covering the outside mirror, and then body lines with tape.
Pretty much any change in shape of a surface will change the noise at the very least.

Also check around where the top meets the window on that side for loose edges of seal and things like that.

That would be a new fad driving around with tape all over the place (lol)

I bought my 67 GT convertible July 4 1998.

It has the same whistle noise. I gave up trying to find and fix it a long time ago.

There was also a TV show on Spike TV a few years ago with a 67 Dart GT convertible driving down the road.

It also had the same whistle noise.

you probably sucked up a honda in there... you best remove the air cleaner and check inside. happened to me once. after you get the civic out of the air cleaner everythin will be back to normal :D

seriously though, i'd have someone go for a ride and see if they can help find the source of the noise. it helps sometimes.

I'm guessing that the whistle comes while driving with the top up? I nearly always drive topless, so I never hear a whistle in mine.

I would guess that either window to top has a gap or you need to replace the door and top seals.

Just because the door hinges wear, ( especially the drivers door ) allowing the door to misalign at seals on any of these cars, That's where I would look first. Our very first notchback had a whistle that I could stop by pulling on the vent window latch. Root of the problem was the door hinges.

The whistle is most noticeable on my car with the top down. It does noy seem to be there with the top up.

Does opening the wing window change anything? My seal shrank and made a whistle(hate when that happens)

Mine whistles top up or down

Have taped off everything possible, filled holes everywhere

Nothing made a difference.

In a cross wind it does change the sound, below 30 and over 80 I don't notice it

My GTS has had that same whistle with the vent windows closed since we bought it in 1983. There was a technical service bulletin about the hood trim causing a whistle, too. I may address all the seals before the GTS hits the road again.

Thanks for the reply. I had guessed that this was similar for other people. As you said, top up or down, the noise stays. I will take my time going through the whole car like I did with my other mopar replacing all of the worn bits and pieces and hope to eventually minimize the noise. (if this is even possible)

Took off the front hood molding strip - NOISE gone!! The TSB from Chrysler had it right. Now according to the service bulletin all I need now is some Dum Dum!!

It's an old Mopar, they all whistle, get used to it. Kind of like the joke about the gal that skydives, she whistled all the way down.

Let someone ride in the back behind you. Let them light a cigarette and slowly follow it along the door opening all the way to the a pillar. When it nears the leak, the smoke will be sucked out and you will see where it is. Then you can go back and address the area.

It has been over 9 years since the car was put back on the road

It has had a whistle I tried finding since getting it on the road

After reading the was a TSB on it and the leading edge trim on the hood might be the problem I taped off the top of the trim before making a 75 mile trip this morning

THE CAR WAS SUCH A PLEASURE TO DRIVE completely whistle free. I could hear wind noise in the right door glass for the 1st time ......... LOL

So once I got to columbus for the cruise in I removed the tape. But before I can home taped it on the bottom side and again drove home whistle free

So anyone with a 67-69 dart with a whistle it would be worth trying to tape the trim off and see if the whistle goes away

What flavor do you use for a whistle? They seem to work well reducing noise in kids too.

Herb,

I posted in Mopar general discussion since this has nothing to do with a convertible.

And not all cars have a problem.

I noticed when taping it off the trim does not fit tight in the contours of the hood

Sure glad I found it, the car is so much more pleasurable to drive without the damn noise

Now I have to decide what the best product to use to fix.

Since the tape did the trick thought about running a small bead of clear silicone along the bottom. But then it would hold water. Foam again would hold water.

But it isn't out in the rain or gets washed with water very often these days.

Good stuff... have had this issue since owning my 69 vert. Thought it was the chrome pc (old seal) above the windshield. Was gonna tape up when I start to work on her again this fall... but now Ill be sure to check that front molding as well. Thanks guys.
