My first muscle car build thread (lots of pics)

So I took the carb off and cleaned it out with carb cleaner. Didn't notice any blockages when i was spraying. Put it back together bolted it up. also put a better pcv line on. Started it up and it runs and idles great now! Took it around the block and it seemed to run great. Speedometer wasn't working but I forgot to hook it back up. Plugged it in and it works! So a good day for a change! Probably will get it inspected tomorrow or friday depending on the weather.

The car has been inspected and running and driving for a week or two now. Ran good but still seemed like there was a bunch more power to be had. I couldn't power brake the car up it would just fall on its face when i applied the brakes. Seemed like it should have had more to it when Id do a full throttle run. Advanced the timing a bunch and that helped alot. Still felt soggy down low and would not power brake. Went back to my old distributor with the lightweight springs. Now it has all the power I thought it could have. Power brakes with ease now and lays some nice rubber!

Put my wing on today

Sorry I haven't updated here in a while, I have been busy working on my other car. I have been driving the dart all over and it hasn't skipped a beat. I got caught up in a wicked downpour the other day, the leaky front window soaked my feet. On the bright side the brakes worked amazing in the rain! I was extremely confident driving it on wet ground. Had to stop from 50 or 60 a few times fairly quick and no skids just nice clean stopping. very happy about that. Then the other day it got stuck in first gear, I pulled over and looked underneath and the 1-2 rod bolt came loose. I pulled out my handy dandy home made vice bent distributor wrench and tightened it back up and got going again. Then last night I found a secluded road and did a nice burnout, went all the way through first gear then banged second and layed 10-15 feet of rubber. Not too shabby considering the low compression engine, trans ratios and rear gear ratio. They got a dyno at the shop a few blocks from me, I am hoping I can get it on the dyno for a run and see what it makes.

There are so many things I want to fix on the car but rite now I am focusing on my other car. soon Ill get back to fixing this one.

Did that with my friends Celica a long while back....that thing was a BEAST.....It would throw you around hardcore when he banged through the gears.....Looks to be quite fun to drive.

Been a long time since I've updated. I haven't done much lately. The other day I had the car on a lift and could check out my front end. It really felt like a bag of crap going into corners even with bigger torsion bars and sway bars all around. I came to find out my idler arm had play at the bolt. Shimmed it with another washer and impacted it nice and tight. no more play. What was happening is I would go into a corner and my toe would change a bunch and that really made it feel not so good in corners. Anyway now it handles much better. The rear still moves around because of the stupid shackles and bushings in the back. the PO put stupid lift shackles on.

I also encountered a melt down the other day when the wiring from the alt fried. Common issue that I now experienced. I patched up the wire and ran other 10 or 12 gauge wire from the alt to the battery. Id like to go thicker in the future but this got me back on the road.

There are so many things I need to fix still on the car. But I have been driving the crap out of the car and not holding back regardless of the incredibly noisy 833OD. This thing makes every transmission noise possible. I think I've did at least 30 6,000 rpm burnouts and it just keeps taking the abuse. I can't wait to rebuild the non OD 833 I have, that thing will be bulletproof!

Lots of little things I need to fix still I am starting to make a mental list of them all. A big issue now is this car is now slower than my toyota. That will not do! Forced induction will be the next big modification.

Good luck. That other wise swap, sounds right on the money. Witch transmission,if I dare ask?

My next project with the car is to fix the damn leaking front window. It would leak down onto the back of the gauges, into the fuse box then exit on your left leg and run into your shoe while your driving. not fun, so I pulled the front window then realized i might as well re do the vinyl top while I'm at it. took out the rear window too, thinking of re using the gasket on that one. I started doing some body work on the roof today.

This is a great chance to try doing some body work. If it ends up looking bad it gets covered anyway! Rust wise i did pretty good some rust at the seams and a few light spots on top.
