I am going for the old school or retro look. And I still have a few more old school parts to add on a hurst shifter, set of vintage valve covers and tachometer.I WILL NOT ADD ON side pipes, yellow traction bars,or yellow plug wires.Trying to do the old school look with taste...LOL

Is that an actual A51 Code Twister car? My grandfather has a '71 A51 Twister, same exact color. My '74 used to be an A51 car, once upon a time. I swear I didn't know it was one when I started butchering it :D (Actually I saw the A51 code on the fender tag, but always thought it was a 71-72 only option. I didn't find out until years later that it was a 71-74 option)

Love how yours looks.

OK, the side-pipes I get ... but no yellow traction bars or Accel plug wires?? Not too many things say "old-school" like a set of yellow slapper-style tractions bars - just look at the post after yours and previous to mine! :D

Ya, I gotta agree on the sidepipes. To me they looked OK on Vettes and Camaros and anything else that resembled a road course vehicle. But that's a bit of another category. The ACCEL plug wires and Lakewood traction bars says 70s muscle car to me.

I thought only the good plug wires came in yellow filled with copper and
headers were white.
Just incase you were wondering why Fenton and Ansen big and littles were getting
harder to find.
I still like the traction bars and 4 into side pipes. The ones with heat grills
never did much for me tho.
Can't post the cars these parts belong to, they are much to rusty and dented to
post still.

2 Questions for you:

1)What is your address?

2)You do leave your garage unlocked, right?

LOL.

BEEYUTIFUL PARTS YA GOT THERE SSBA!

2)You do leave your garage unlocked, right?

Unlocked? I can't even get out.

I have always liked your machines also. I hope to drive mine again someday.

Here's a couple safety items thought you old schoolers
would appreciate. I still plan to paint the helmets to match
the cars. If I can ever get the bodywork done on them.

Tell me ya got some of the old nitro masks and goggles to go along with em. - That'd be cool! I SO want to find me one. For now all I've got is a head sock. I won't be running nitro if I ever get the funnycar done but I still want to wear the mask anyway!

I haven't got the mask or goggles for running fuel yet.
But it has crossed my mind since I am likely going to build
a middle 60s front engine dragster this coming year.
I got a old Hemi I had plans to put in a 30s coupe. But no coupe
body has come my way. So it looks like dragster it will be.
I talked a friend of mine into building one also so we will share the
cost of building a jig. We have been working on the weekends making
room in the shop. To many A bodies in the way.
This is the engine I will use. Still study'n how the in and out clutches
work now. This will be a whole new kind of car for me to build.
Got lots of learning to do between now and next spring when we plan to get
started welding pipe together. Just what I needed a new toy. I am beginning to
think I won't live long enough to get them all done. But I will give it a hell of a try.

Wow, tire and wheel heaven! I have some real Pos-a-traction tires that are mint if you are interested. Only pair I have ever seen.

That is f-in sweet!!! You achieved the exact look I wanted. It looks evil and straight out of the 70's! Perfect stance and awesome paint. I'm in love.

You get me! Anyone can restore a car. Order parts from a catalogue. It's more fun trying to capture that look and feeling of back in the day. Remember cruising and street racing? Nowdays kids think racing is on the freeway starting at 60 mph and flooring it. I have always loved redline tires and cheater slicks. I love the paint on the first hot wheels. It's almost translucent like. If I restored my '69 Cuda then it would look boring. I want it to spark memories of drag racing in the late 60's and early 70's. I want someone who owned one to be like "Yea, I dated my girlfriend in a car just like that!" Old stuff always looks cooler than new stuff. Check that scoop on the blower in the earlier post. Notice how "mad max" it is?! A new scoop looks all billet like and lacks soul. In Texas we have The Lonestar Roundup where only traditional style cars are allowed. No billet queens. Guess what! I think it's the biggest show in the nation now. Unfortunately, it's supposed to be only 1963 and back cars. I would love to see a street machine revival for muscle cars and for hot rods. Maybe I'll start one here!

All you need to complete your look is some Vans sneakers.

SE Racing PK Ripper from the early 80's late 70's. The "Hemi 'Cuda's" of BMX. They sell for about $3000 now on ebay. Cost maybe $300 new.

You're not alone on the thought, while it can be harder to stick with a '60s/'70s period you just have to know where to look for parts. I think my car would look better with slots and some G70s with 50 series rear tires.

That yella dart is bitchin!!!!
I need to get to sand'n and get some paint on my stuff.

I realize that there are all sorts of varying tastes out there. I try not to offend anybody with comments I make (or don't make). There are so very few member cars that I do not like. - And then it's usually just certain parts of their cars that I don't care for. I've liked all the cars in this thread. But 132068Dodge has put his car together exactly the way I REALLY like. The scoop and oversized tires tend to put it over the top for me. I love slightly modded cars but when you can take them a little further that's when my eyes start to pop. That 68 Dart could have a tired slant in it with a ratty interior and it would still look mean. I like a car that is a bit intimidating when you're next to it at a stop light!

I ended up getting obsessed with that late-60's/early-70's Trans-Am Look myself.

Everything underneath is new with "modern-ish" spring-rates and alignment spec's.

(1.03 bars, adjustable strut rods, offset UCA bushings, XHD leaf springs w/ the AR geometry-corrected hangers, 4* pinion shim, 11" manual discs with 11" B-body finned rear drums, Hellwig front & rear sway bars, C.O.G drop of nearly 2", and 15" steelie wheels)

My drivetrain combo will be to eventually mate up the wide-ratio 904 I picked up to the 3.23 sure-grip... She's the HIGHWAY STAR lol

Nothing crazy, just an effective, basic build that's meant to drive, and cannot be confused with anything modern from it's outward appearance.
